Interesting since they don't seem all that close to winning, at least more so than the Flames. I guess MTL is closer to his family who live in Ontario.

I wouldn't be too upset at missing out on Hall if we can nab a good starting goaltender and another winger in free agency.
It'd be nice to trade Gaudreau for some good young assets, but we can also do that next year if needed.

Yes I agree that part of the reason for what appeared to be a lopsided trade involving Domi is that they are clearing some cap room to go after Hall.

I thinknid rather an FA spending spree that looked like this:
Toffoli
Vatanen
Holtby
Rather than an all put insane overspend on the tippy top.
I still think Taylor Hall is a Flame Friday night though.

I don't mind Toffoli, but I think there's a huge chance Vatanen and Holtby would end up dead cap space.

For the Flames to have a shot at Hall I think they need to be ready for a 6-7 year offer at $8M+ with great bonuses and favorable trade protection (similar to Gio/Backs etc NMC for first few years then a limited NTC).
Calgary is only winning the bid with the long term career offer they won’t be considered on the short term.
