The VP debate rarely moves the needle. The candidates are to come out and project competence and not throw up all over themselves. Mission accomplished by both. Harris projected competence and patience, which is what people were expecting/needing to see. Pence projected the same chauvinistic spirit that Republicans wanted to see. Overall, Pence did not change the narrative about the Republican message - that they are bullies, liars, and won't give straight answers - which is a fail and won't help them at the polls. Pence's job should have been to stem the bleeding from the self-inflicted wounds that Trump gave to the ticket in the last debate. He failed in that regard, so the advantage remains to Biden/Harris.

The next President debate is off. It was to be done virtually, but Trump did not like that. Also mentioned how they can ‘cut you off whenever they want’ which is really the reason he doesn’t like it.

Well that's disappointing. I was looking forward to Trump in a town hall debate being asked tough questions by normal people. All while roided up and unable to contain himself. Watching him go off on a person in the audience would have been must see TV, and would not have done good things for his poll numbers. Boo to this.

Nothing the Trump campaign is doing brings voters they don’t already have to their side. Last night while Pence gave a professional politician debate performance by talking a lot and not answering anything, all OT does is make the bas nod in approval. It doesn’t make an undecided or Biden voter move to the Trump camp.
Now Trump is skipping the next debate which is the same thing. It will do nothing to bring voters to him. It may cause the exodus to slow as he’s not being a know nothing bully.... I think this skipping of the debate is just going to help the characterization that he’s a bully and a big baby so the exodus may continue anyways.
I hope Biden is allowed to use the time and just have a town hall by himself.
I’m not sure it’s that the mics can be cut off that actually bothers Trump. It’s that there are going to be some questions and statements from regular people who will outwardly hate him...his ego can’t handle that.
As well I think it is also likely the case that he will not be physically capable of having a 90-120 minute continuous event a week from now so the excuses come so as not to make him seem weak. If he was physically capable of campaigning right now he’d be at a rally somehow (virtually or otherwise). Instead we get short videos from outside the Oval Office.

That's actually a good idea. Let Trump sit at home like a baby, and have the adult answer the tough questions.
No doubt there are many people who would agree. Voter turnout has been terrible in the US for years even as people have watched the democracy being corrupted. That's why the system has reached the current breaking point with Trumpublicans. Many Americans have little interest or engagement in democracy as long as their day-to-day life is fine. The disaster of covid may end up being the savior of democracy, as Trump would probably have been a shoe in to continue in power if not for covid.

He might have been a shoo-in even with COVID if he just didn't #### it up (and the white supremacy stuff). But he's too mentally ill to do anything but be a giant debacle.
