Sounds like fueding with the owner was ongoing. Not great timing if you are SD.

That organization continues to shoot itself in the foot.
If you're going to fire him you do it immediately so that you can give the job to Cam Cameron.
Morons.

Not a Charger fan...but if I was.....ughhhhhhh
What a terrible move this late in the offseason.....not to mention Marty is an amazing coach IMO.

No problem with this move.
Yes it's incrediblly stupid, but can only hurt the Chargers chances of being the top team in the AFC next year

NO kidding,
I'll be sad that I can't cheer:
MAAAARRRRRTTTTYYYY on the sidelines anymore. Until this year, the Broncos just worked Marty no matter where he was. Maybe Oakland will pick him up.

Actually the feud was with AJ Smith the GM who is a total idiot. He's managed to **** of just about everyone in the organization - Spanos actually supported Marty.

I know he was fighting with the GM, but I presume that the firing of a HC requires a little input from the owner. If so, then doesn't it seem as though Spanos is in Smith's corner? If not, and Smith fired him without Spano's input, then the gong show has just begun.
I hope Denver can take their division back now.

According to the ESPN crew, Marty was fired because he allowed both his tight end coach and linebacker coach(?) to interview with other clubs recently. Smith did not want that happening after losing both co-ordinators to other clubs as head coaches. Marty said he was not going to stand in the way of guys bettering themselves.
Spanos is an idiot here IMO...he fired the wrong guy if he was choosing between the two.

Well, i guess his playoff reputation is really starting to cost him. oh well, they have a solid core, they'll be fine with any transition on offense or defense

That is pretty sad. If you look at the guys who first started under Marty Schottenheimer it's a very impressive list of coaches.
Cam Cameron
Bill Cowher
Herm Edwards
Tony Dungy
Than consider that Marvin Lewis, Ken Wisenhut, Lovie Smith, and Rod Marinelli came from the group above and Schottenheimer has had a lot of good coaches start under him. I can hardly blame him for wanting his guys to go onto bigger and better things.

Schotenhiemer will never coach for Oakland. He hates them more than anything. But I guess money talks. I'd take him back in KC in a second.

As a Bronco fan, I'd LET him go to KC, especially if you promise that we can play you in the playoffs.

Well I'd take Schotteheimer if it meant getting to the playoffs. Chiefs are in for a rough year next season.

Marty may have his problems in the playoffs. But he has only had 2 losing seasons in his entire coaching carrer. Pretty impresive numbers.
