Haha that's just silly. Closing a deal doesn't mean getting bent over, it means getting #### done. If it takes an extra pick or prospect to bring over a legitimate star player, then get it done and stop over valuing your players..Much rather do that instead of the usual mess Treliving makes in Free Agency with mid tier guys.
You know, other teams are making trades.. unless Treliving just knows the market too well and is smarter than everyone else to not overpay?
As for your question, if Calgary signs Hall.. I am good with Anderson + Hall for Gaudreau. Addition by subtraction for this core. Albeit, we both know you are completely over exaggerating that Flames will only get Anderson for Gaudreau.

To be fair, you don’t know what Columbus and the Flames we’re discussing. Your criticism seems a bit premature. Maybe Columbus wanted Domi, a C, more than what Treliving was offering.

You don’t get it at all here pal. To close the deal he likely needs to trade Monahan or Gaudreau to get Andersen. If you ask me who the star player is here I think the answer would be the asset the Flames would be giving up and not Andersen. It is not like he needed to add a third (which we didn’t have until after the draft) to a player like Derek Ryan. The Habs paid Domi for a guy that scored 1 goal last year.
My reaction to the trade is Columbus wins it easily but it has potential to pay off for the Habs. I am not overly excited about the Flames making that type of deal. When we talk about Andersen it was never in return for Monahan/Gaudreau

Ill get roasted for this, but I would have gladly given up Mangiapane for Anderson. I wouldnt have paid any more than that though. I highly doubt Calgary's offer was even close to what Montreal payed for Anderson.

What else could the Flames have given Columbus to beat Domi and a third?
Posters on this board felt that Domi for Johnny formed the starting point of a deal.

and one can mature as a player, and raise the level of his game to win the Hart trophy.
the other has done what the last season and a half?
I can see an argument to say they're comparables as players.
but to say it's clear Gaudreau is better not matter what, to me is to me ridiculous.

And if he has another season like the last one, his value will be even lower.

Trade deadline eliminates a lot of suitors and you are looking at strictly futures which isn’t a deal the Flames will want to make unless the team is having a horrible year and poised to miss the playoffs

I can't recall this poster ever having a positive flames take.

Why are we upset that they missed out on Anderson? Domi is the one in that trade I wish we were after

Some folks are bent out of sorts because it was mentioned the Flames we’re trying hard to get Andersen but missed out to the Habs. I guess some people would rather lose a trade like Montreal did just to see a trade being done?
Let’s them hate Treliving either way I guess?

Haha yup that was subtly my point.
Don't pretend you actually wanted Anderson just as an excuse to crap on Treliving. Especially when the Habs overpaid to do it, you really want to give up even more than that?

So do you think he should have offered a deal with more value than what Montreal offered?
What would that have looked like?

Treliving was just warming up yesterday. Played the board perfectly. Let's see what today brings.

I find Domi overrated on these boards personally.
He's had one good season, traded twice and he's only 25. Be interesting to see what kind of numbers he puts up in the next few seasons, or if his team actually goes anywhere.

If we make 2 extra picks today because of the moves yesterday, I'll be happy.
If we flip those picks in a trade that now works because we have enough to offer now and didn't before, I'll also (likely-return dependent of course) be happy.
Either way should be fun.

Good god, not every incomplete trade is because someone can't close the deal, most of the time it's because they reach a point where they refuse to pay that much.

Something like Mangiapane. I don't really think Domi is that great.. although, it would have been nice to get him so he could play with Tkachuk. To me, Mangiapane and Domi are likely to have similar numbers next year.
Mangiapane has potential and I am a big fan but I think the roster needs bigger players. Anderson is big and has potential to become a strong middle 6 forward.. and a RW.
