I'm looking through the scouting reports of Horvat from the regular draft sites, Connor sounds like a carbon copy of Bo, leadership qualities, (Zary wears a letter) most complete two way player etc...
Bo Horvat was projected to be similar to Ryan Kesler.
Bo Horvat had a safe projection as a defensively responsible second line center.
Bo Horvat was ranked right around where Zary was but this is a deeper draft.
Bo Horvat (they thought) may not be a big point producer at the highest level, since his defensive ability is even better.
Career Projection - He has the upside to be a top-line center but the safe projection is probably an above average second line center.
Long-term he projects as an ideal third-line center in the NHL. Horvat could find himself on a team’s top six -- as the sandpaper on an offensively-gifted line.
I don't know much about Zary, but with Horvat a lot of his "downside" was generated by sub-par NHL level skating. Horvat surpassed almost all expectations by turning his biggest weaknesses into a strength

I wonder if Jakob Pelletier and Connor Zary were linemates at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship?
From AC's post of the highlights (i highly recommend watching...not just goals but clips of him checking and generating scoring chances), he and JP were together a decent amount.
I have thought some more on it and still like the move. Trading back in the draft is not some ingenious move. And when it happens, teams almost always tell you they got their man anyway. You are essentially betting on your scouting department, who are seeing things slightly different than the teams around them. You hope you can parlay that into some extra picks.
But ultimately what’s important is getting that first round pick correct. Because it doesn’t matter how many 3rd rounders you gain if you blow your first round selection. And so I can look at lists made by other people and conclude Flames made a good pick, but who knows. Other teams have those lists and their own too. You can only wait and see.
But seems like Treliving did well in gaining the second 3rd round pick. Dropping g from 19 to 24 should be worth at least a 3rd rounder and maybe a little more. Getting two 3rd rounders seems like good value to me.
Not it’s about developing Zary. This team needs him to be an NHLer.
Zary was a force at those U18s. 4 goals and 7 points in 7 games. Pelletier didn't have nearly as much success, just 2 assists. Guys have bad stretches though.

-Zary's touch in front of the net reminds me a lot of Monahan and Tkachuk
-Zary seems to have a lot of tools. Every scoring play looked different
-The quality of goaltending in the CHL seems to be atrocious LOL
-skating appears to be noticeably better in the 19-20 video than in the 18-19 video
