Icon48 2020 Draft Rounds 2-7 - 9:30 AM MT. Sportsnet

Flames picks:

Flames pick:
CGY 2nd round - 50th OA
NYR 3rd round - 72nd OA acquired by trading down from 19th OA to 22nd OA
ARI 3rd round - 80th OA acquired by trading down from 22nd OA to 24th OA
SJS 4th round - 96th OA acquired when Flames traded Frolik
CGY 5th round - 143rd OA
CGY 6th round - 174th OA
CGY 7th round - 205th OA

Picks Flames have traded away:
CGY 3rd round - 81st OA traded to CHI in Gustavsson trade *
CGY 4th round - 111th OA traded to LA in Fantenberg trade

conditional pick:

*if the Oilers do decide to give up their 2020 3rd, the pick will transfer to Chicago and Calgary will keep their 2020 3rd instead. This is a result of the condition of the Gustafsson trade where Chicago would recieve the higher pick of the CGY 3rd or EDM 3rd

If we traded 50, 72 and 80, how early into the second round could we get? Late 30’s? I’d love to draft Gunler tomorrow morning.

Finley or Colangelo would be my two ideal targets from that list

Robins would likely be a solid pick too

So did edmonton ever decide on this?

nm-I thought it was the start of 3rd round of playoffs, not the draft.

The Oilers have until their pick to decide if they want to keep it or not.

Considering this draft is thought to be very deep, seems like a certainty that they will keep it.

There's some draft pick value tables around, I'm sure they get adjusted constantly and I think a team dropped theirs in a recent draft and it was found and shared online IIRC.

But according to this one:
https://bluebulletreport.com/2019/06...k-value-chart/

The Flames traded #19 (15.0 value) for #24 + #72 + #80 (combined value of 16.2).

If we combined 50, 72, and 80 that chart says they're valued at 8.8, equivalent to the 31st pick essentially.

Imagine dealing the thirds for a higher second to pick up Gunler.

Aka picking up Gunler to move down five spots while also picking up your original draft target.

That would be some sorcery for the ages.

I realize that you don't necessarily draft for position, but who are some of the defensemen likely available around the Flames pick at 49? Haven't been following prospects as much this year.

Even if you go off recent historical trades

2019 draft:
Flyers traded #45 and #65 to move up to #34
Sens traded #44 and #83 to move up to #37
Knights traded #48 and #82 to move up to #41

2017 draft:
Flyers traded #44 and #75 and #108 to move up to #35

You would have to package the Flames 2nd (50th OA) with one of the 3rds to get into the early 40s. Maybe a little less or a little more depending on how the draft plays out.

Maybe the 2nd plus the two thirds might get you into the 30s, but that might be too far back for most teams.

I would love to see the Flames move up to grab one of the Euro-RHD. Whether that be Helge Grans or Topi Niemela.

Man, that would be so tempting if they had a dance partner and truly believed in their guy (ie: William Wallinder being a future #1 defencemen)

Helge Grans sounds like an elderly Scandinavian woman.

Anyone think we'll ship off a pick tomorrow for some Hall rights?

All (media) reports are that Hall wants to test free agency, he will be having “zoom meetings” with interested teams on Friday and Saturday. No use spending a pick if that is the case
