Flames obviously didn't want Lapierre.

No way they pass on a "faller" and trade down twice if they actually wanted him.

This will be an interesting draft to look back on with hindsight in a few years.

Someone needs to remind Brad that 1st rounders have higher NHLer conversion rates than thirds, before he trades for another one.

Seriously, that injury history for such a young guy makes me very nervous, and I totally understand any team not taking the risk on him. Even with that talent, he might only last a year or two with NHL contact. Can't score if you can't play.

It does seem like they may have wanted Mercer. It would explain why they made the trade once Mercer was off the board.

bottom line is Calgary is getting their guy anyway plus 2 picks

you might not agree with the pick but they are likely picking the same guy they would have at 19 and getting two free 3rds

Flames are gonna blow it on Barron and I’m going to be very upset we missed out on way better forwards.

Indeed. Hindsight, much like this draft, is 20/20.

Can't remember who the D man was that button had higher than everyone else but wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being that guy.

For some reason I think that's who they wanted the entire time.

Just a complete guess by me.

Conroy said the Flames have 8 players they liked in the range at 19. He said they would consider trading down of several of them were still on the board.

He wasn't lying ehh?

We can still get the Oilers pick this year too right?

3x 3rd rounders we didn't have an hour ago.

Based on pick value calculations both of these trades were good values.

It’s a different sport but Bill Belechick perfected this at the draft and traded back to get huge value.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I'm glad the Flames didn't pick Lapierre, personally.

Now, I want Zary. That would make this 1st round perfect for the Flames. Bourque would be my 2nd choice. Gunler would be great as well.
