So would now be a good time to offload my 02-03 Team signed jersey, while everyone’s feeling nostalgic? Or should we keep that year out of our memory?
Nicest jersey in the league.
And I like the flags.

Harley Hotchkiss was also the big proponent of having the flags.
My guess is you see them Remembrance Day, if they use them just once.

I was thinking if they do a Ken King tribute night this season, they could wear them for that game and retire them afterward.

It was WAY too long for them to do this. I do not accept “it’s a long process” as a valid excuse away from straight up incompetence at this point.
The jersey process is not 13 years. The last set was in for 14. Even if you say the process is 2 years which sure, maybe, you’re still 12 years too long. This is equivalent to having the Buffaslug jersey for 14 years. An organizational embarrassment. To have the audacity (I use this word precisely here) to keep the old home as a 3rd just pushes the envelope on how disconnected whoever is in charge of design and marketing is with the current market, latest trends and fan base. And I think we all know who this person is, and that is Murray Edwards. And Murray should know, hey, when you hear this from your marketing people who hopefully to god read this website- your jersey opinions are horrendous. Just let your people do their job, for the love of everything.
What annoys me the most is that these things actually matter. People say they don’t, but they definitely do. Multiple points here. To players, this matters. Only slightly, but absolutely it matters. To fans, it matters enormously. Huge revenue source, pride in team, and ability to generate new fans by getting them to wear your merchandise specifically children / kids. The Flames have always underestimated this. To creating a lasting classic legacy. The organizations at the top of the NHL have lasting brands, designs etc. Now luckily the Flames have this in logo, but unfortunately they have not only mailed it in on jersey, they appear to have actively worked against it for largely illogical reasons until now! Retros were 150% the right answer 10-14 years ago, and the Flames should be apologetic about not getting this right until now.
I get that Ken King liked flags. I get that he was a wonderful person. I don’t get the connection between those things and trading for the literal face of your franchise. Because in today’s NHL, it’s not about the players. It’s about the jersey and logo. That’s what fans cheer for. When Jarome Iginla went to Pittsburgh, this didn’t become Pittsburghpuck.com. So give us a jersey to be proud of.
Now that we have a jersey again to be proud of- never change it. Like the other guy said, only mess with the 3rds, and let time cement these as decades old design, the only design we won the Cup with and will win future Cups with, and leave it the #### alone.
This stuff matters, but this organization pretending it doesn’t for 30 years did not help.
Now I know “the process” doesn’t take a decade, so kill the current 3rds. Literally 95% of people hate them... so get over yourselves and kill them already.

Yeah I haven't actually owned a flames jersey other than the 04's that was purchased for me as a youngin. Just wore that one to every game and I'm not a big guy so it always just fit.
I just bought a blank white retro a month ago. Refused to wear that piped flag garbage. Could've had so much more of my hard earned money over these last 13 years had they just listened to their fans and people that know what actually looks good. Not businessmen who forgot Calgary isn't the only NHL team in Alberta. Seems harsh to say but who puts a blue flag on a red jersey like good god man..

I literally refused to buy a jersey for the last 14 years because of precisely that. I would not support the laziness or obvious #### you to the fan base. Now? Yes, now I will buy one or two. Obviously, they are amazing. And they finally did the right thing.

Sort of like what the Ducks did with the Disney era logo.
I was never a fan of the "Snot Horse" at the time, but that had a lot to do with the poor quality of the teams then.

Blasty/Snothorse is irredeemably terrible and an embarrassment to this franchise and to the City of Calgary. I hope Blasty receives the otolaryngologist care that he obviously requires and is able to enjoy a quiet and peaceful retirement far away from the Calgary Flames.

Same. I've been just sticking with the 04 jersey because I refused to buy their primary set by how awful they were. Now that the retros are back to being primary, will finally buy a new jersey after all these years.

Hey folks, as mentioned I interviewed Ryan Popowich, Flames director of marketing, over at FlamesNation about the full retro move and the Flames' marketing history and future. It was a great time.
Here's the article!!! Enjoy!! I know I enjoyed writing it.

And then, we were like, ‘let’s do something that’s a modern take on the retro jerseys, using the colouring.’ I’ll tell you right now, we went as far down the road as creating a prototype of a modern take on the retro jersey, and, hands down, that was my absolute favourite Flames jersey that I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I wanted that jersey so bad,” Popowich continued.
|
I'd kill to see that, I'm really curious what it would look like.
Also the bits about the CF patch are encouraging. I'd like to see that return, for sure

Terrible take! Blasty was and is awesome and should be our current thirds instead of last years mess. Do the tribute to KK, then bring back the fire horse of awesomeness!

I bet in like 20 years young kids today will get nostalgia for the flag jerseys and the team will wear it for a retro night and people will be buying it up like hot cakes.

He mentions a lot of things that were argued in jersey threads here for years. Piping, vertical stripes, and even the love of the CF logo and trying it with different colour schemes.
Sounds to me like Ryan read the thread that Ken King did not.

Popowich credited the passion of the younger segment of the Flames’ fanbase for bringing Blasty back into the collective consciousness of the hockey world. Four years ago, he said, the idea of using Blasty on merchandise or a jersey would have been shot down immediately by the Flames’ higher-ups.
Now, things are different.
“We’re showing them, ‘here’s the tweets, here’s the polls, here’s the reaction from people,’ to the point that we’ve finally broken down some of those barriers,” said Popowich.
|
Russian twitter bots are trying to cause chaos. Only explanation for Blasty's online "popularity."
