So this trade could make sense for Montreal if somehow Domi ends up being paid more than he's worth and Anderson ends up being paid less?

Yeah, the differences in cap hit don't really make sense. Domi would earn more because he's the better player.
Hard to make assumptions based on who would be overpaid.

So player A is worth more than player B because player B is the better player and will subsequently want a better contract? Seems backwards af to me. Especially when Domi at least has 2 years of RFA to Josh' 1 (I believe).

I don't quite understand the notion of MTL being fleeced here. So far, Josh Anderson has proven to be a much better contributor to team's success than Domi. Hence; the return.

I don't really see Domi as a fit at center under John Tortorella. Time will tell.

Oof. If that's what it took to get Anderson I'm glad the Flames didn't go for it.

If this deal gives MTL the reach/cap space to secure Hall, its probably not such a bad deal. If they miss out on that it definitely looks worse.
Hard to know what the thinking is exactly.

Domi and Anderson will cost about the same I imagine.

I like this for Columbus. Big risk for the Habs but I also think the bigger reward.

the Habs do have a butt tonne of picks this draft, not to say a 3rd is worth nothing but it may not be worth as much to them as it is to CBJ (or anyone else).

But isn't that around what each respective player is worth? I don't really understand this. The 3rd doesn't balance out the cap hit, the fact that Domi will likely score more points balances out the cap hit.

Oof. I really don't get the Josh Anderson thing. Must be something I'm missing.
Seems like a really low price for Domi, but I guess the Calgary comparable would have been a deal involving Sam?

Domi was looking at 4th line duties in Montreal. He was expendable and Anderson fits in at right wing. I like the trade for Montreal.

Healthy Josh Anderson is an absolute beast. Big body, very good skater, good hands in close.
He was a massive reason that the Jackets swept the Lightning in the playoffs last year.

Me neither.
People are talking about how they think he has more potential left than Domi and I just don't get it.
Anderson is 26, has a career high of 47 points, had 4 points in 26 games before his injury, and is coming off a major injury.
vs
Domi who is 25, was a 12th overall pick, has a career high of 72 points, lowest 82 game pace for his career is 45 points, and has been mostly healthy for his career.
Like one of those two guys seems to have way more potential and it's certainly not Anderson. IMO Josh Anderson is pretty much Rene Bourque, but maybe not as good was Bourque was. I could really see Domi taking off with CBJ and Torts.

He had 1 goal and 2 assists in that playoff run over 10 games...think his impact is being overstated.

It also comes down to asset management though. Domi should, theoretically, be able to garner more return. Now obviously if that was a trade, there was nothing out there.
Also Canadiens turned Galchenyuk into Domi into Anderson (with a 3rd going out as well), so maybe not the worst overall asset management.

Josh Anderson isn’t very good and I’m glad we didn’t get him

Bullet dodged there. Didn't want Domi in any shape or fashion, so that problem is solved. Wanted Anderson only as an after thought addition. Glad we didn't go after him if that was the price.
