Round 1 is scheduled to begin at 5pm MT Tuesday. Rounds 2-7 will begin 9:30AM MT Wednesday.

44 potential 1st rounders were sent hats of all 31 teams so they could wear their new team's logo when they get picked

Flames pick:
CGY 1st round - 19th OA
CGY 2nd round - 50th OA
SJS 4th round - 96th OA acquired when Flames traded Frolik
CGY 5th round - 143rd OA
CGY 6th round - 174th OA
CGY 7th round - 205th OA

Picks Flames have traded away:
CGY 3rd round - 81st OA traded to CHI in Gustavsson trade *
CGY 4th round - 111th OA traded to LA in Fantenberg trade

conditional pick:
EDM 3rd round - 76th OA Oilers have until the start of the 3rd round to surrender this pick else they give up their 2021 3rd pick to the Flames*

*if the Oilers do decide to give up their 2020 3rd, the pick will transfer to Chicago and Calgary will keep their 2020 3rd instead. This is a result of the condition of the Gustafsson trade where Chicago would recieve the higher pick of the CGY 3rd or EDM 3rd

This draft is interesting as the COVID shutdown limiting viewings by scouts and cancelling the combine. Some draft eligibles were even playing this past weekend. Lots of factors that could influence rankings from teams.

Interesting that McKenzie has Lukas Reichel at #20. He's Robert's nephew.

Most of the other rankings have him in the 30s and even early 40s.


We know that Treliving likes players with pro pedigree. I wonder if teams place more emphasis on something like that this year with limited viewing and shortened development seasons all around?

Some fans (no one in particular) absolutely hate the draft because they think it is a massive hype cycle built out of nothing and the amount of hype means that the larger percentage of these players are going to bust.

On the other hand.

Most of us feel like this is Christmas morning though, wondering who will be the next steal of the draft for the Flames à la Johnny Gaudreau, Robert Reichel, Theoren Fleury, Brett Hull, Gary Suter...

Same thing happened last year if I remember correctly,

I would expect we might see some later 1st round picks switched around.

However that will be extent of the trades.

If trades occur it will be Wednesday.

Lots of talk this morning that Kings are leaning towards Stutzle at #2.

Byfield is going to be great and Ottawa being able to get him at 3 is going to look like a steal IMO.

He was 17 his entire draft year and his combination of size, speed, and skill is exactly what you want in a first line center.
