He did not really show any improvement in his Draft+1 season, and was completely underwhelming in the AHL. He went on a 27-game tear this year in which he was shooting at an unheard of and completely unsustainable SP of 0.25. I am still sceptical that he can be a long-term NHL top-six forward; he could just as likely be another Sven Baertschi.

We will see. I agree that Yamamoto may very well regress. But if that happens, I'm guessing it'll be due to the Oilers' incompetency, as per usual.

Also, everyone I mentioned is a pure one-dimensional offensive forward, except for maybe Kyle Connor. Many teams often look for more all-around players with their first round picks. I think that partially explains the drops.

I'm gonna say it. Because I feel it needs to be said, Askarov is the 2nd best player in this draft, and its not a large gap to Lafreniere either. But, factors like "because goalie" and "Russian" have a real time effect on things, he won't go #2.

Would not be surprised to look back at see him at least in the top 4 redraft discussion.

From the sounds of it though, I would be shocked if he got out of the top 10.

A lot of it of course will depend on how he interviewed. If he indicates that whoever drafts him has no bearing on whether or not he comes over, I could see him in the top 5. If he is a little evasive about his intentions, he could slip in the draft.

If I were the GM of the Sens, I would grab my franchise C (Byfield, as the Kings are rumoured to be in love with Stutzle) with the 3rd pick, and my franchise G (Askarov) with the 5th pick. In a few years after they marinate a bit, you're laughing-rebuild is pretty much done.

SN's Sam Cosentino has the Flames taking Zary at 19.

Fc's mock has the Flames taking Gunler. So thats 4 mocks now where the Flames take Gunler.

Not gonna lie, if he is available I think there is a good chance that we take him. I think the management really likes him. Not based on any evidence whatsoever. Just my intuition.
