Still remember the start of last season when Spezza got benched by Babcock, and all the media storm that created. Spezza is still in Toronto, Babcock isn’t.

This reminds me of when Grant Fuhr was a Flame. It's weird

I look forward to seeing him told again that he will not be dressing for the home opener...
....with his daughters and family in the crowd to see him in his first game with his hometown team...
...that he took a discount to sign with.
Oh wait. Babcock the SuperCoach is gone! The Leafs won't treat their players like garbage this season. Yeah!

I like the guy, and I think it was a reward to him from the Leafs for sticking it out the BS time they gave him earlier, to give him another contract so he could stay home. Not that he was bad, because he was very good value, but I don't see how he fits on their team make up personally. Last year I was all for it, this year I'm just not sure what Dubas has in mind for his vision of the team. As a fourth liner, very nice contract from the team's standpoint - I guess he really wanted to stay home, because I'm sure he could've got better money elsewhere.

Oh this is the definition of a hometown discount. He could definitely get more on the market.
Spezza fits in extremely nice for the Leafs. He can play 4C and slots into 3C quite nicely in case of injuries.

Agreed. Lack or depth or not he fits nicely. Where I’m not sure about is the team style of play vs his. He’s on the obvious downside of his career with the back issues flaring up, and he’s not as limber. On a team that wants to beat you with speed he’s a lone exception. He’s not slow and anything in that regard he makes it up in spades with his rangy hands, but something seems off with how he fits with the speedy makeup of the rest of the roster.

Great depth signing, the guy obviously wants to stay near home and the Leafs capitalize.
