He’s a 30 point 5 million third liner that is past his prime. Why not just keep Neal or Brower.
With having Lucic we can’t even chance another bad contract like that. Offer sheet Cirelli and/or Sergachev instead.

If the acquisition cost is right, he would be a tremendous piece to add along with his playoff experience.
He had one season where he was a 50 point winger. By that measure we have a 99 point winger everyone wants to run out of town.

What are you talking about?

His AVERAGE 82 game season is 52 points.

Then there are his stellar playoff numbers.

If the cost to pick him up is insignificant, I wouldn't be opposed to picking him up. Good player that saw his production drop because Tampa's depth pushed him down the lineup. Good playoff performer in the past too.

I can’t see Tyler Johnson’s name and not think of this ridiculous clip.

2:58 mark. And yes, the question was “the most impressive thing you’ve done”

Flames have used up their quota of Tyler Johnsons.

On the team that just won the Stanley cup pretty easily, he had 7 points and was a minus 6 in 25 games. For a 5’8 center who is 30 and 5 million a year. Absolute puke no way.

I am sorry, two seasons with 50 points or more. He has not recently put up those kind of numbers. That is a bad contract the Lightning are trying to get out of, unless they retain salary that would be a terrible acquisition.

All these NTC guys from Tampa likely are not too happy going elsewhere. Not many tax free locales left who can take on their contracts. They all took less money to play in tax free Florida so I can't see too many of these guys being happy to lose the big escrow plus pay higher taxes.

In a league where next years' money uncertainty comes into play, I'm assuming the only teams that will be interested in him would be a rich team who isn't competing in the next year or two. Additionally, I imagine Tampa would be sending some incentive to take on that contract. I think Johnson's style would be better for the East as well. Who could fit that bill? Detroit. They are familiar with him, and like the speedy little players. I could definitely see Yzerman convincing ownership to take a flyer in this case.

Take another look at LeBrun's tweet: he says that Johnson has been approached about moving, but nothing about whether or not he has actually agreed to exploring trade options. I think it is very likely that we are eating both steak and three-day-old pizza.

How do you get corrected and still get it wrong?

3/7 of Johnson's seasons are 50 or more points. Not 1, not 2, but 3. He also had a 4th season with 45 points in 66 games.

Would be more interested in Ondrej Palat if he does indeed play either wing

regardless, I would never take anything Garrioch says seriously, he's not even as reliable as Eklund.

He is not a player that I look at adding. The only hole he fills organizationally is a RHS. He is not going to displace the first two centres, so at best he would replace Bennett as the 3rd line centre - for 5 million? I guess he can be put on the 2nd line RW and on PP2, but still... he is a 5'8" player on a team that has Gaudreau and Mangiapane in the top 6. I want to upgrade significantly on Mangiapane, and this isn't it.

Easy pass for me, especially considering that Tampa is not going to take any cap back other than a minimum deal, as the whole point of getting rid of him is to cut cap. I am hoping the Flames are able to find a better RHS option if that is the hole they are going to fill, or at least a much cheaper option.

And the season before this one he had only 47 points - but 29 goals. Plus he’s a RHS.

His contract is too rich but I’d sure look at him on a retained salary. I think he’d work with the team because next year he’s on a LNTC, and has to provide a 20 team list, so his leverage is far less.

For me, it all depends on the cost. If he only costs a 7th, you find a way to make it work. If it costs more, they need to retain. Johnson at 5m is no worse than Backlund at 5.35m though.
