Stars extend Sekera (2 years, $1.5 million AAV)
https://twitter.com/user/status/1312845031045246978
This is probably what a new Forbort contract looks like.
Sekera was 77th on the big board; Forbort is 71st

I think Sekera is a bit underrated because of the Oiler stink on him

He's okay, but he was always better offensively than he was in his own end. Now, he's not close to being the 30-40 point guy he was in Buffalo, Carolina, and Edmonton. I think his defense has improved marginally but not enough to be better than bottom-pairing quality.
Still, for $1.5 million, it's hard to go too far wrong. Also allows them to ease blue-chipper Thomas Harley into the lineup.

He's not that great but at 1.5mil, that's not a bad bottom pairing option

I'm surprised he got two years.

Assuming the Stars protect Heiskanen, Klingberg, and Lindell, they'll need a guy like Sekera to expose in expansion. He now fulfils that requirement for Dallas.
I feel like they'll probably wait to extend Oleksiak, who has taken massive strides in the last couple seasons, until after the E.D.

Funny things is that the Oilers have a cap hit for him at 4M over the next 2 season (they are on the books for him for 3 more seasons).

I never suggested he was good defensively, but his offensive impact gets underrated.

Ehhhhh. He had two goals and nine points in 86 games this year.

Offensive impact goes beyond points, as a Brodie fan you should know that

Yeah but Sekera was 24th on the Stars in shots/60 and 16th in on-ice xGF/60. They didn't deploy him in very many offensive situations, either, only Polak was less sheltered this year among Stars defenders.

1.5 million for a 5/6 d-man is a decent contract. Best case scenario so far, for Sekera, when he got bought out by the Oilers.

You mean he is getting paid less than Oilers getting hit?

I do feel like he's being misused and have no idea why they are using Lindell on PP2 over Sekera, the PP has always been his bread and butter.
