Don't worry guys, we'll have the PERFECT goalie within the next few weeks.
If it is a super old goalie, I am hoping it is one without many miles on the tires and whose body is actually 5 years younger than he is. If they keep themselves in super shape that would even be better, that would probably make them play like a 26 year old instead of a 34 year old.
People also aren’t nearly critical enough of the goalies that the Flames have had in the last decade either.
They’ve been piss poor, and we’ve pissed assets away on them - hence the frustration. The only way they’ve helped us is that they’ve worn goalie pads and stood/fallen forward while in the general area of the crease. Every year they’ve been horrid/below average goalies.
I have a hard time laying blame solely at the feet of Treliving on the goalie issue though. The cost to acquire a legitimate 1G via trade would have likely been prohibitive. Remember what the rumoured price was for Bishop at the 2016 draft? Pretty sure it was the 6OA pick which was Tkachuk. That would have been a huge mistake. Even now, the rumoured 1st for Keumper trade is being derided by most. Everyone wants a stud between the pipes, not many want to pay the price.
When Treliving joined the organization, John Gilles was widely considered the best, or close to, prospect the Flames had. He also used a high pick in 2016 on Parsons. Surely the organization would have though that one of these two would have stepped up by now. This explains the stopgap strategy, to me anyway. He bet on his prospects and development team and it hasn’t gone to plan.
In any event, how many ‘sure things’ are there out there related to Goalies? They’re few and far between.

I am super curious to know if we ever see the duo of monahan/gaudreau on the flames again.
That's the MOST intriguing thing I'm watching this offseason.
Agreed. And even though I see the asset logic of moving him, it’ll be a sad day for the franchise if Johnny is moved. Possibly the most electric player the Flames have ever had.

Weeks ago I 100% thought Johnny would be traded. After reading a bunch of articles with referencing gms and the money issues going into the season, I’m not sure he will be traded. IMO it sounds like regular season trades with money coming in has to be close to money going out. If that’a the case then getting a deal done will probably be harder. Doubt Tre wants quantity over quality. Don’t think there is any chance of getting just picks and prospects. I could see a one for one trade but who I have no idea. Johnny for a right handed dman?
