expect that if Trump did die, and the election went ahead, the Republicans wouldn't be on board if Biden won.
I would also expect a tremendously violent reaction from the far right side, we'd probably see a major uptick in domestic terrorist events.
If Trump survives and wins this election, I expect increasingly violent protests from the disenfranchised.
I don't see anything peaceful or productive in the next few years whether Trump dies, or he wins the election or Biden wins the election.
I guess I don’t see the issue,
Now if Biden were to die you might have a problem because forcing the election to the house would result in a republican president. However if Trump dies and wins the electoral college will select a republican and if they fail to get to 270 the house will select a republican. If Biden wins the electoral college will select Biden. The democratic house isn’t stopping an election because the candidate died and I don’t see the originalists on the Supreme Court overturning a very clear law that the Election Day is on x date.
I heard it mentioned on CNN tonight that Barrett had Covid this summer (I think it may have even been as recently as early August) so that is certainly an interesting connection. I'm not a virologist nor have I really followed the science behind the spread very closely but I do have to wonder how much potential there is in someone spreading it post recovery. From my understanding people could carry a small viral load that may not trigger a positive result especially on rapid tests which then infects close contacts.
I remember when the NHL season was shut down someone on this board posted "So this is how the Oilers miss the playoffs" quite prophetically.
And I'll be honest my first thought last night, "So this is how we pull out of this tail spin without a literal civil war knocking at our southern boarder." Lets hope equally prophetic. At the very least this should limit his ability to more damage over the next 2-3 weeks, and I hope that's enough
Similarly, I've often thought that the best case scenario is that Trump's presidency ends in 1 term or less, and goes down in history as a period where America battled - and recovered from - a serious national mental illness.
If he were to drop dead of Covid-19 days before an election he planned to undermine and steal, it would write the final chapter of a (hopefully) contained little novella about the time America went bananas.
I mean really, if you just put the Trump story from 2015 to 2020 in a book - one that ended with his death from a virus he said was harmless - it would be a story that, 100 years from now, a lot of people would regard as apocryphal. It would be just too nuts, and the ending too fitting, to be believable.
There would be a certain poetic justice if the Senate was unable to confirm her because too many Republican senators got sick at this event and they couldn't get a majority vote.
