I wonder if that is going to help or hurt the campaign.
People in this thread seem gleeful about the president being sick and may also be in danger of dying. I simply don't function that way, no matter how awful a human being Trump is; and let's be clear, he's a monster. But I've always felt that the mark of a man is how he responds in the face of evil. If he responds with evil in kind, he's always been evil at heart and has only been waiting for the right moment to let it out. No matter how you view him, it's deeply concerning that the President of the United States may die from this virus. That should be sobering for anyone.
I'm comforted by Biden's actions to be a human being in this moment. I'm extremely discouraged by the GOP's response and it only confirms that they are indeed a soulless party at this point and must go away forever.
|
That's dumb. If the world would be far better off without him - a notion to which many of us subscribe - then this is good news. Unbelievably sanctimonious for you to brand us as being 'evil at heart.' Like, lol dude, get over yourself.

This is simply something that should not have happened. Everyone in the White House is supposed to be tested all the time, yet it appears quite a few people from there got it in the last few days. It's a Covid-19 hotspot because they flaunt masks and taunt mask wearers.
I don't wish poor health on anyone, and he hope he pulls through. I do feel that he deserves to be crapping his pants about this.
If anything positive comes of this, I hope that Americans change their attitudes about Covid-19, they realize that karma is real, and about 40% of them feel stupid for believing Trump downplay the seriousness of the virus.

Who knows if the world would be better off. Sometimes we, as humans, need to be reminded of our worst qualities so we can rally behind truly worthy qualities. I hope that we are seeing that shift back towards decency and humanity, along with a desire to work together on problems, rather than conquer and divide.
It's not sanctimonious, it's truly how I feel about how people should respond to the terrible things in the world. Now, feel free to call me naive, because that's entirely possible, but I think the less hatred spewed, the better off we all are. I can only take care of myself. It's up to others to figure out their own moral compass and find their own way.
I fully understand the glee people are taking in this, I just don't think it's positive to do that in the long run. I'm not trying to judge anyone here, just offering my perspective.

I might have agreed with you once, but watching what this administration has done to the institutions of government, sowing distrust in the free press, trying to take away universal health care, hypocritically ramming through a SCJ a MONTH before the election, botching a pandemic response for political points and stirring racial animus ... i could go on and on and on.
Obama's biggest mistake was trying to be bipartisan, believing in the 'fundamental goodness' in people, instead of using a huge mandate and the bully pulpit to push through a bigger stimulus package and stronger healthcare package.
Holding out an olive branch to the GOP has failed. Miserably.

OMG you have to be kidding me.
Being pleased the guy who is responsible for a disinformation campaign to muddy the waters with respect to the realities around covid and the best ways to prevent it which have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of infections getting the disease is delicious.
If this moron had worn a mask and promoted mask wearing six months ago, fewer would have died. He was mocking Biden for wearing a mask literally this week. Within an hour of him going to the hospital the White House mandated masks. Like, that's hilarious.
Trump is a racist, a sexist and a bigot. He encourages white supremacists and villifies immigrants. He's a mean, spiteful, awful person.
I'm pleased he is now sick and out of commission temporarily in the most just-desserts way imaginable.
But I'm evil of heart and uncivil. Gtfo.

Frodo: 'It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill Gollum when he had the chance.'
Gandalf: 'Pity? It's a pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.'
Frodo: 'I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.'
Gandalf: 'So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides that of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

Godwin's Law.
Trump is not Hitler, full stop.
And all I was saying is that I don't want to take glee in this situation or his possible death. I won't cry over his loss either. Ambivalent is where I'm at I guess?

But he wants to be. Hitler Jr? Wannabe-Hitler? How about those?
I can pick another name if it helps but I’m sure it won’t because you know exactly why Hitler is such a common example. And it has nothing to do with you misunderstanding what Godwin’s law is.

Ah, the classic “completely misrepresent someone’s point in order to dismiss it” tactic. How brilliantly thoughtful.

Nah, I think he's Denethor: a ruler who's approaching the end of his reign and unwilling to cede power, is envious of other figures who hold real power and unwittingly undermines his own kingdom in their best interests, is gradually descending into narcissistic insanity, has a relationship with his offspring based entirely around disappointment, and eats food in a really weird way.

Actually it’s perfectly on point.
When is it ok to wish “uncivil” ends to an uncivil person?
Jeffery Dalmer? Ted Buddy? Stalin? Mao? Saddam? The Ayatollah Khomeini? Kim Jung?
Are they evil enough for me to wish/hope they meet an uncivil end?
Hitler’s just the best example because we all know who he is and what he did. It’s my point that you’re so terribly missing.
Yes I think trump deserves to die. He may not have killed all those people, but he’s responsible for a great many deaths. And unlike many political leaders who have indirectly done awful things, it’s what trump wants. It’s for his own personal gain and his own racist ideology that he encourages white supremacists and encourages violence against minorities and immigrants, his COVID denial is designed to kill minorities, separating children from their parents etc. He’s a monster.

I can certainly see both sides though, and can’t help but have an emotional reaction of some kind of joy to his being ill, and the thought of it’s potential seriousness. Trump is a plague on our safety, stability, and prosperity in the world. I will be thrilled when he is gone, and will enjoy any legal and financial catastrophe that waits for him.
But I met an otherwise decent person down there during the Obama presidency, and he made a comment about wanting him killed. I found it pretty disgusting at the time, so I can’t justify to myself that I am inherently more worthy of making that judgement against trump.
I can’t intellectually cheer for him to die, and Biden holding the high road is a strong positive in my mind. But I will also not be sad if things go poorly for him.
