Lifetime In Suspension

Should he die (I highly doubt he will) that would almost be best case scenario for Republicans. Would they be forced to put Pence at the top of the ticket or could they throw anyone in there? I want to say they’d have to take Pence and a runner up at VP.
But even that gets them their evangelicals back, swings a bunch of moderates to the Bible thumping man who doesn’t say crazy stuff, hrm. Not sure I like this one bit.

My wife asked me this morning what would happen with regard to the election if Trump were to pass away.
I'm not an expert of US election law, but given the primary has passed, the nominee is picked, with ballots printed and people have already voted, wouldn't Trump's name stay on the ballot?
There have been dead people that have won elections in the past.
In the event that Trump wins as a corpse, then I would imagine Pence would be sworn in as President in January, where he would have to appoint a successor as VP.

Biden is pulling all negative ads and has made a statement that this “cannot be a partisan moment.”
He is right. Time will tell if he pays a price for being the nice guy here....

Even if he pays a short-term price, one can hope that long-term it will be seen as a reach across the aisle moment that can help the US get past this stupid partisan stupidity.

Him going to hospital really hampers the I just got the flu campaign coming out of this. Based on that I suspect he is in more serious condition then is being let on. Also that he hasn’t tweeted all day would support this.

I'm surprised it's taking so long to get Trump out of the WH and into the helicopter. Feels like the helicopter's been there waiting now for an hour.

With him going to the hospital, I wonder how soon they'll have to swear-in Pence? Or have they already?
The doctor on CNN last night, who was actually Cheney's heart surgeon, said they need to move Pelosi to a secure place until this ends for succession of power in case Pence was exposed too.
Oh. Trump walked to the helicopter on his own power and now it's leaving. Wearing a suit and a mask but didn't say anything.

Pence would only need to be sworn in if Trump is not able to perform the duties of the President.
I.E. he would have to become really sick.

Lol, yeah, Republicans have a rich and storied history of reciprocating bipartisan decorum.

I thought he looked a bit shaky walking. Jim Acosta said he looked tired.

Slightly off topic, but that SPECIAL REPORT break got my attention. The whole breaking news concept has become totally devalued down to nothing, but this being today, you knew it was real. Brought me back to the days where interrupting your show with SPECIAL REPORT meant either that something had happened to the President or the Russian missiles were on their way.

If he was able to walk (and walk relatively easily by video) then it isn’t severe yet. It likely is an abundance of caution in case he does go downhill quick that they don’t waste any time.

If the unthinkable* happens, I wonder if Americans are going to be able to overlook the fact that Pence was head of the Coronavirus task force. Generally, being given the job of preventing just one thing, and your boss who appointed you dying of that one thing, wouldn't be seen as a good argument to replace him.
Just in case, Harris needs to absolutely eviscerate him on all the task force incompetency at their debate (if it still happens). Make sure to absolutely hang this around his neck.

The Republicans have to go forward with the ticket they have. If this had happened a month ago, a completely different story. They could have gone to the states and replaced Trump on the ballots and gone forward with the new ticket. But the deadline to get a name on the ticket is long past, so they have to go with what they have. If Trump does die between now and the electoral college vote, and he won the election, the Republicans would have the right to put forward a new name on the ticket and the EC would then vote on that ticket. As it is, the ticket is Trump/Pence, ballots are completed, voting has started, so it is locked in.

Tactical error. If the hospital gown was on the other guy, the Republicans would bury him in his sick bed. Never take your foot off the gas pedal in the straight with the finish line ahead. It won't be popular, but that's what Americans expect.

It's still pretty early.
Herman Cain tested positive on June 29th, went into hospital two days later, and was deceased on July 30th.
