Also really missing the LDC this year. Hoping for a bigger and better CFL next season.

XFL scheduled to return in 2022.

Creates a bit of pressure (but also some reprieve) when it comes to a CFL re-start in 2021.

I still can't believe they couldn't create a bubble for a league with 9 teams...

With no gate I'm not sure it would have made sense.

I suspect they lost less money by not having a season than a season with no fans. Plus the amount of money the players would make in shortened season with decreased revenue splits would not be worth it for a majority of the players.

Yeah, the CFL wouldn't really work with just TV, the expenses would eclipse the expenses of each teams share of the TV deal. Especially if the players were paid full bank.

I think the CFL deal is 50 million a year, or about 5.5 million per year. Out of that the CFL salary cap is 5.7 million. By the time you add all of the other costs, its not worth running the league without fans in the stands and you'd get serious pushback from the owners if it was tried.

But there's an opportunity cost, possibly a neccesary one with playing this season. We're Canada, the Americans mostly don't want to play here if they have decent opportunity down south.

We just blew apart the league by allowing all these Americans to pursue other opportunities due to no season, and now the XFL is coming back and likely to be much more stable and "normal". I think the CFL just killed itself by sitting this one out, personally. It was a perfect storm.

because the XFL has shown in the past that is stable and "normal"? let's have the XFL actually stay around for a couple seasons in a row before calling it stable.

Twice by the same arrogant **** who thought he could "entertain" his way into a viable football league.

This is awesome. Hopefully he can join Singleton in getting an NFL touchdown tonight.

This makes me so damn happy...been a Packers fan for over 40 years....been a Reggie Begelton fan since the day i met him a couple years ago. Seriously one of the nicest men i have ever met.

Man I hope they give him a shot. MVS will be the only WR on the roster tonight that has caught a ball in the NFL. I think RB could have a night if they allow him the opportunity, he has those kind of skills IMO. One of the best WR the CFL has ever seen IMO, just for a very brief time.

Go get em Reg!!!

Another Stamp making a name for himself in the NFL is James Vaughters.
Playing about 30% of the snaps at LB for Bears. Picked up his first sack by taking down the GOAT on Thursday night.

So Begelton was waived by the Packers on Monday...was not claimed...and then re-signed to the practice roster yesterday.

Still has an opportunity.

Any chance the CFL can come back in a bubble in either Toronto or Vancouver after the Super bowl in March? Throw in an American team to make it 10 teams and call them the Stallions.

No XFL and people will still want football.

^ i am not sure how the CFL could make the finances work without paying fans.

i thought friednman mentioend the bubble cost the NHL about $70 to $90 million - i will assume american $, but my rough exhibit will show canadian:

$70m / 24 teams = $3,000,000 per team - so would the CFL be able to afford an extra $3m per team, plus the salaries. Plus football is a game that requires more players due to injury, so what do you do with your reserves. Keep 15 guys at varioous positions around? that would equal more cost. Plus you can only have one football game per week - even if you shorted that to 5 days and had a 10 game schedule you are looking at 50 days - but with a turnaround like that your injuries are likely more so you need more players around.

and then if you have a season in the spring - then what do you do the following year to try and get back to your July to November time frame?

I can't see how the CFL could manage other than business as usual. even if they went PPV it is difficult to replace the lost ticket revenue
