I don't understand how getting another left handed defenceman makes sense unless you're sending out Gio or Hanifin. If you subbed Philippe Myers in for Gostisbehere, I might do that trade.
The Pros
But I probably like Voracek a lot more than most people on here. I honestly think Voracek might help the team quite a bit. Corsica has him ranked as the 14th best RW in the NHL. Corsica has Gaudreau ranked as the 19th best LW in the NHL, and it has Lindholm ranked as the 19th best RW in the NHL, for perspective.
Myers is a young RHD with the ability to play in the top 4.
And I've always been a pretty big Frost fan.
The Cons
Voracek's contract.

Jimmy Hayes is as much an insider as I am.
That trade is disgusting. I do want a core shakeup but not to make the team noticeably worse and more expensive lol. Wrong direction.

The Voracek smoke really worries me as his name keeps coming up. These rumours bring back memories of the Phaneuf trade where the Flames got quantity for a quality asset. It's just poor asset management if something like this goes down.

Konecny's career best is 61 points (in 66 games). Johnny's career worst is 58 points (in 70 games). By 23, Johnny had posted 64, 78, and 61 point seasons. Konecny at 23 has 28, 47, 49, and 61 points.
Johnny is the better player. He also drives our offense. The difference is at least Frost - basing trade value off last season alone is selling low on Johnny, and should not be done. Keep him if that's the best you're getting offered.

So Konecny has 1 goal in 22 "playoff" games. He's still awfully young but maybe that's why Phlliy might consider dealing him.
But I wouldn't be surprised if Voracek and Ghost are the NHLers in play here.

Does it actually? I think the only time I have seen him mentioned are in guesses from HFBoards and in Jimmy Hayes's useless "insider" speculations. I have yet to see any remotely credible sources make mention of a Voracek/Calgary trade connection.

At this point, my two cents says Kuemper or Hall have a better chance of being a Flame next year than Hanifin.

Voracek and Ghost are 2 players that I don't want from Philly at all....not even for free.
I'd rather take 33 yr old Giroux.

They should be looked at as negative value.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
On the bright side. Cost certainty. Also certain? Mediocrity.
Seriously though, I can't see it happening. Voracek alone screws up the internal cap structure.

I would take Voracek or Ghost as part of the trade for salary reasons, but not both.
Voracek+Myers+Frost for Gaudreau+Kylington would be an acceptable trade in my eyes.
Gaudreau+Bennett for Ghost+Frost+Patrick+1st 2020 is not so great but I could stomach.
I don't really love the idea of trading with Philly. I don't think they will give up Konecny.

I'm not that sour towards Voracek as a player - but as a key part in the return for Gaudreau? It is vomit inducing. Particularly with a flat-cap, Voracek just doesn't provide value on his contract. He's 31 years old (32 in August 2021), locked in at $8.25M AAV for the next 4 years and is a 20 goal/60 point...that's horrible value, especially when you look at the natural age-related decline that will undoubtedly begin taking a toll on him.
You aren't competing for ANYTHING when you're spending $5.25M on Lucic and $8.25M on Voracek.

Its a cost I wouldn't stomach just to pick up Frost.
Its also a proposal that makes no sense whatsoever. Giving up the best player, as well as your teams best playoff performer and doing the other team a favor picking up two of their less liked contracts. Didn't realize our organization was a massive doormat in the view of Philly people.

Hah! I have an inside source that the Canucks are going to get him at a 2 mil retained for Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle and a 2nd round pick.
The inside source is the voice in my head telling me everything is going to be okay.

It would have been signed and done by now.
Either Brodie or the team or both don't feel that Brodie as a Flame is the best fit.
The Flames have not had significant success over Brodie's career. The team obviously wants to upgrade or at least change and Brodie coming back especially on anything more than a 2 year deal is saying that mediocre is okay
