I looked at Pronman's rankings, and he has four players in the fourth round that I have slated for the second, and in Cosentino's rankings five of his first rounders arn't in mine. He has one pick I really like a lot.
I can't remember a draft so all over the place.

Just wait until 2021. That one is going to be even worse because of what's been going on.

I also wonder what happens after the draft.
Okay, these kids are all drafted, but where do they play/do they play at all this season? Some are coming from Europe, so I'm assuming they play there, but what about kids from North America? I haven't heard much about what the CHL is doing this upcoming season. And NCAA doesn't seem like a good bet to have a season.
If they don't play, that would really torpedo almost any kid's development.

Here's a quick draft heat map using 10 different rankings.
Does a decent job of laying out the levels based on averages.
Sure looks like 16 guys are pretty much guaranteed to be off the board leaving a band that features the following ...
Dylan Holloway (C/LW)
Kaiden Guhle (D)
Hendrix Lapierre (C)
Mavrik Bourque (C)
Braden Schneider (D)
Brendan Brisson (C)
Noel Gunler (RW/LW)
Jacob Perreault (RW)

My big hope is that we land one of Holloway, Lapierre or Perreault.
Holloway has the size and aggression to be a very good player. His D-0 year was a let down compared to where he set the bar in his D-1 year.
Lapierre has the skill to be a #1 centre, and it has been said over and over that if it weren't for injuries, he'd be a top 10 pick.
Perreault is another home-run swing in that his skill-set (skating, shooting) looks to be high end, but that his internal motor may be a bit off which is something that could be fixed.

I would be quite happy with Guhle, Holloway or Lapierre, but still holding out hopes that Zary drops.

Is it just me or does Holloway have similar skating ability to McDavid. Maybe not quite the same top speed but the same power. Effortless skating. Similar puck control.
From his highlights he can drive the net and also has a blistering shot, this might be a guy that destroys it in his D+1 and proves he should've been closer to top 10 than top 20.

From that list, how is your ranking of their Give an F Meter? It seems that the Flames have done a better job recently getting the guys that compete hard ala Mangiapane.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Assuming that you're talking about his personal drive, but I don't think that's one of those things that you can really fix. I feel like passion and intensity is either something you have or you don't, or at least not something you can really instil into others.

Agreed. I'd sooner take the passionate player that dealt with injuries than the healthy player that dealt with lack of motivation. (Unless we're talking head injuries)
Your heart either is or isn't in it. Strengthening physical attributes is easier than motivating players that have trouble keeping their interest high.

Button's final mock is up, and he has the Flames taking Justin Barron at 19 - which, with how he has the draft playing out I find laughable.
17 - Lapierre
18 - Perreault
19 - Barron
20 - Holloway
21 - Greig
22 - Zary
There is no way the Flames would pass on Holloway or Zary at 19 to take Barron...at least I really, really hope not.

The biggest knock against him seems to be that his effort in all 3 zones is questionable. Offensively gifted, but doesn't flex a strong defensive game. That's something that usually comes with age/dedication.

My Real world expectation is that the Flames do take Barron. And all I can imagine is Kevin Costner scribbling down "Vonte Mack, no matter what" on a post it note before he walks out the door to work.

Treliving says there's depth in this draft, especially with the top 40. #Flames

Button seems to be really fixed on the idea that the Flames will take a defenceman with their first pick. I just hope he isn't getting that idea from his brother.
It seems like Treliving has always been consistent that you don't draft for need, you draft the best player available regardless of position.

Tre's buckets are 1-3, 4-11 and 12-20. does that align with the pundits?

Using Bingo's averaged heatmap above:
1-3 Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle (duh)
4-11*: Raymond, Drysdale, Rossi, Perfetti, Holtz, Sanderson, Lundell (11.9 average), Quinn (12.9 average)
12-20: Mercer, Jarvis, Amirov, Zary, Holloway, Guhle, Lapierre, Bourque (22.4 average)
with Askarov as a wildcard?

Conroy mentioned right-handed shot or D-men. Don't know if this was 'cat out of the bag', or just random musings

Tod Button was on the Flames Firestarter podcast recently and mentioned that they were honing in specifically on Dmen initially due to a positional need, but when the Flames signed Mackey and Poolman that changed things and allowed them to focus on simply the best player available.
Based on the various draft lists, the focus on D in that range sounds like Kaiden Guhle (6'3", 187, left shot), Braden Schneider (6'2", 209 lbs, right shot), and Justin Barron (6'2", 198 lbs, right shot). There appears to commonly be a gap before and after that grouping.
As for forwards, there's several I like the sounds of.
Not knowing much about any of the kids, I like Mercer and Jarvis but expect they won't be around at 19, but one of Amirov, Zary, Holloway, Lapierre, Bourque, Gunler, and Perreault would be nice by the sounds of it.
