Yup. When I heard Johnny for Vorachek/Ghost/Prospect, my stomach gurgled-cuz that's just exactly the kind of trade that goes down when we as fans are expecting something positive....

He will most likely get moved for picks+prospects and a roster player. Unless a cap dump like Lucic is attached to the deal, I can't see Calgary taking back massive amount of salary like Ghost+Voracek.

Having said that what do people think about
Gaudreau+Lucic for Voracek+Ghost?
That's 12 million out and 12.75 million in so the cap movement is much more realistic.

Absolutely not. Even then I'd want Frost, Farabee and a 1st.
Ghost's contract is just as bad as Lucic's. It's only 750k lower in AAV and he is a liability on the ice. Lucic might be overpaid, but his play doesn't hurt the team; in addition Ghost's deal would cost the Flames more in actual dollars remaining to be paid.
Vorachek has never been worth his 8.25m cap hit. He's surpassed 70 points twice in his career, is starting to decline and has 4 years left on his deal. Gaudreau is 3 years younger, signed to a great cap hit and is a better offensive player than Vorachek
So in a Vacuum, Gaudreau for Vorachek and Frost makes some sense I think. As does Lucic for Ghost. But when you factor in actual dollars the Flames are eating approximately $15m in actual money. So, I would want at least 2x 1st or a 1st an Farabee to eat all that cash, as Carolina got a 1st for eating Marleau's 6.25m and with a flat cap and no ticket revenue, dollar are even more important than they were when Marleau was traded to the Canes.

Treliving has never made a trade that bad, so expecting something that bad is a pretty terrible take. That trade is Forsberg for Erat bad.

I have been monitoring this twitter handle and seems like this dude is as legit as you can be without the blue check mark.
Kuemper and Andersen are the goalies being discussed and we will get a Johnny update at some point.

I'm not expecting the Flames to be adding any meaningful picks. I'm expecting the proverbial "hockey trade" and if anything, picks more likely to be going the other way.

Sens Chief Amateur Scout says they are willing to move the 5th OA pick depending on what happens with picks 1-4.

I presume they'd just be interested in moving down to acquire more picks... don't really see the Sens having the roster to improve at all this year, even with who they add at 3 and 5.

Instead of Hall or Hoffman, what about Dadonov. I know he's 31 but a 4 year deal at 5 might do it.

I'd be looking at a trade built around Sam Reinhart and Gaudreau as the main pieces.

I also doubt Hanifin gets to that level.
Hardly anyone does. No defenseman in the entire league has had the career that Hedman has. Maybe Keith, but I don't even think he deserved the two Norris trophies. Doughty's peak didn't last as long. Josi took way longer to develop.
|
First of all, let's be clear about how it unfolded. Hedman was a disappointment (as most young defensemen are) for his first 4 seasons. By season 5, he really started to come around. However, it is a stretch to say he was 'one of the best defensemen on earth' at that point. I would argue that he achieved that level by his 8th season (16-17), and has probably been the best Dman in the NHL for the last 4 years (along with Josi)

I worry about adding Kuemper. Is he the benefactor of playing for some defensively sound teams? Did those defensive teams he played for make him look better than he is? Maybe we would get him and he would slip because we're no defensive stalwart.
I like Freddy Andersen though.

I think without riding Eichel's coattails, Reinhart looks more like a 2nd liner but will want to get paid like a first liner because of his production with Eichel. I avoid him at that reason, I would want Risto before Reinhart because he will still produce and play physical and being on a deeper blueline could really benefit him.

People have talked about he analytics of goaltenders ad nauseum on here since Kuemper rumors popped up and the consensus seems to be he and Raanta are making Arizona look better than vice versa.

Why though? I am fine with trading Gaudreau, but Reinhart is the wrong target. Reinhart is basically the bargain bin version of Monahan. Plays well when he has a player to drive offense playing with him, but won't create offense on his own. Ok defensively, not physical, average at best skater. All in all Reinhart is an ok support player, but not a player you build around.
If you a trading Gaudreau at least one of the pieces should end up being a core player you build around. The best bet for that is to get a young forward that can grow into a top 6 role. There is risk involved for sure, but in order to build a winning team sometimes you need to gamble on players

Now this is something I hope Treliving is kicking tires on.
One key thing to note is that the Sens are way below the salary floor, so trading for players might be a better option than overpaying mediocre UFAs

To get that core piece the best bet is likely an early draft pick.
I think if you could get Reinhart and 8th overall for Gaudreau as a starting point then that's something the Flames should think about.
Reinhart hasnt lived up to his draft hype but he's a serviceable RW which this team needs, and really the 8th overall pick (in a deep deep draft) should be a core piece on this team within the next 2 seasons.
