I mean he isn't being absurd.
When considering taxes it is likely Vegas would have to pay less to bring in players than Calgary.
I also agree with the Markstrom assumption although there may be a question in relation to protection to be added to this.
It isn't really an outlandish statement.

This is such an outrageously bad trade.
All of the players coming from Philly have negative or zero value. A declining Voracek at $8.250/year is bad. Calgary takes back a net $6 million dollars in cap, trades away by far the best player in the deal, and gets older.
Tanner Laczynski? Sixth overall pick who's yet to play anywhere outside of college? Future captain of a Honda Dealership sales team?
Seriously, even if Laczynski does find a way to the NHL, he can sign with whoever he wants via the NCAA loophole. This player literally has no value, and Philly doesn't even control his rights anymore due to the loophole.

A lot of rumors of Gaudreau to Philly for Voracek and Ghost.
Wanted to give my input if the trade does happen:
- Gaudreau + Ryan + 3rd (2021) for Voracek + Ghost + Frost + Zamula (RD prospect) + 1st (2020)
- EDIT: Flip Ghost to NJ for Severson
- Sign Hall, Markstrom, Grant, and Greiss
Line-up Looks like:
Hall - Mony - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Frost/Backlund - Voracek
Bennett - Frost/Backlund - Mange
Lucic - Grant - Dube
Reider
Gio - Severson
Hanifin - Anderson
Valimaki - Kylington
Mackey
Markstrom
Greiss/Rittich

Ghost for 20 OA +? Philly should just do that without Calgary

I'm not sure of the perceived value of Ghost league wide but it could be a 2nd this year and Severson.

Severson is a better d-man than Ghost, is one of the better RH defensive d-men in the league, and is signed to a reasonable contract for 3 more seasons.
Corsica player rankings have Severson as the #33 RH Dman in the league, Gostisbehere is the 57th best LD by their rankings.
No chance the Devils move him 1:1 for Ghost, let alone with the 20th OV added.

Understood, and I am not trying to crap on your proposals, but many are of the view that he has negative value at his cap hit.

I actually don't know anything about him.
And I was wrong in that Philly has signed him to an entry level contract, so he can't just walk. I really don't see the "future captain" take though. He wasn't even the captain of his NCAA team and only served as Alternate captain.

Why do we keep trading Gaudreau for crap in these proposals?
It’s been months of the same garbage reiterated over and over.

Not sure where, but I saw NJ was looking to trade Severson. I realize 20th is a big ask, a later pick or even 1 for 1 would work for our RD position if NJ does it.

Valid point, maybe we do a 1:1 for Severson. NJ adds a little more salary but have the space. They also get more offense and better transition from the backend.

If the trades are this outrageously bad, how is the organization not just better keeping Gaudreau and moving him to the RW for two years? Yes, it's not an optimal position for him, but two years of sub-optimal Gaudreau is much better than a late first or being saddled with Voracek's contract.

I mean, I hate the idea of it too as I feel we're getting completely destroyed on value so I hope its wrong.
But the fact it keeps coming up all over the "media" scares me into falsely thinking it could be a reality and that I need to prepare myself for when the return for Johnny is not what we all envisioned.
I still don't see how it could be so awful/low but why does literally everyone out there have us getting nothing but grizzled/older terrible salaried players.... I'm confused and worried at the same time.

No one respectable has mentioned this PHI deal. Not a single one.
Friedman has said Calgary may move Johnny, but he also said the Flames will not be rushed and they won’t make a bad trade.

I guess the question for me is whether Ghost is completely useless? I understand he isn't much defensively, but could he be a powerplay specialist and 5/6 guy like Gustafsson?
He should not be the centerpiece of a trade, but understanding that salary needs to come back, is he unredeemable as a player, or is there some bounce back potential? I haven't watched him at all this year, but I assume he was bumped from the powerplay with Provorov/Sanheim/Myers on a fairly deep Philly blueline.

Gostisbehere has fallen heavily. He was a healthy scratch multiple times in the playoffs. For 4.5M cap-hit, the Flyers should need to add to move him. They are a bit fortunate that he is paid 3.25M going forward but that's a hefty cap-hit for a healthy scratch.
With that said, if all other options fall through come UFA period, I wouldn't mind the Flames taking a flyer (teehee) on him for something along the lines of "future considerations". Flames do need someone who can rush from the backend and generate offense.
