I'm guessing:
Money - They all make over 6.5 and we're still weak on the RW.
They all play LW so either one has to move to off wing or you force one down to the top 9
I still think you trade Johnny for big assets (Philly for example) and not really skip a beat having Hall replace his spot. Use those assets to strengthen the right side.

I always thought it was Mangiapane who was playing off-wing on that line?
(Realizes he's potentially out-ed himself as an adult who can't easily tell right from left...)

No, at least 70% of the time on the left and about only 6% on the right with JG and either Monahan or Lindholm. According to Dobber anyway.
I’m pretty sure Mangiapane was on the right when there was a Backlund/Tkachuk/Mangiapane combo

I think Tkachuk would excel on his off wing. It is where he scores most of his goals from anyhow.

The HF thread on where Pie lands Vegas / Toronto / Calgary has gone down a rabbit hole debating about hate speech and annual snowfall.. don't ask it doesnt make any sense.
Though I found this post humorous; who tf is Rasmusen ?
From User - SeanMoneyHands
I can see him landing in Calgary, move Gio to the second pairing.

Stajan was on 960 today and he doesn’t think there’s any chance Pietrangelo goes to Calgary. His wife is from St. Louis and his family is in the Toronto area. We don’t like to hear it, but American wives of players are extremely reluctant to move to a different country, especially if they’re raising a family.
People realize these rumours are just guys like LeBrun speculating which rosters Pietrangelo would be a good fit on, right? There’s not even a suggestion that the ‘links’ to Vegas, Toronto, or Calgary are coming out of the Pietrangelo camp.

That was my take as well. Calgary theoretically makes sense based on the defensemen likely walking as UFAs, but I don't see a scenario where Pietrangelo signs in Calgary.
I think people need to realize the magnitude of a UFA of Taylor Hall's status considering Calgary. It realistically has not happened before and may not happen again as Calgary is probably a bottom 10 (maybe 5?) choice for big name free agents. It's why I can't help but laugh when people poo-poo the idea of signing Hall... it's a prime example of "beggars can't be choosers".
Markstrom might be a different case as #1 goalies surely key on several factors, including: the city, the team's defencemen and defensive system as a whole, opportunity to play a lot of games, and in Markstrom's case I'm sure a strong Swedish contingent makes a big difference (especially if he's close friends with Lindholm as speculated).

Basically what all of them do most of the time. Which is why it’s so annoying when people complain about trade proposals by posters, who have put time into considering where players would fit both roster and cap wise.

Somebody told me he turned down 8X8M from the blues, and he's looking for buyout protection in the form of bonuses late in the deal. Some team will offer him a ridiculous contract...

I don't have the background or experience to make educated predictions on Pies final spot.
I have read some fairly well structured arguments suggesting both Toronto and Vegas would struggle to make cap room for him without negatively impacting their rosters though.
Stays put in St Louis ?
For the love of god just don't end up in Colorado.

That may be true but your missing the point. A lefty on the right side standing near the goal generally has to backhand a shot from a cross net pass for starters. A mix of shots is always an advantage. A small one but still as important as say winning 52% of draws for example. I have no predictions or crushes on players other than I'd like to see a large physical right shot winger...20-25 goals with the right linemates?

^ Depends on how they're standing. It's also far easier for a lefty playing the right side and vice versa to get a quick one-timer off.

As a RH shot, I find it much easier around the net on the left side myself as I find it advantageous to have my stick on the same side as the net. It also helps me considerably for one-times as you mention.
I think Hall would be a good fit as RW because he does have a good one timer and both Gaudreau and Monahan are good at moving the puck.

But a player open their natural side has a better angle at the short side and the goalie has to travel further to save it.
But mostly it’s about ease of zone exit along the boards and protecting the puck when carrying it up the ice.

Looking for signing bonuses and a NMC which the Blues have not done in the past.
The Flames also have not handed out a full NMC to any player but if they are bidding for the cream of the crop UFA’s they may need to do things they haven’t done before.
There is still a good part of me that thinks this is a ploy by both the agent and the Flames to drive up the price for the Blues for AP and lower the cost to acquire for OEL for the Flames.
I just can’t see Pietrangelo really picking Calgary. The thought of the top 3 UFA’s picking Calgary and then recouping picks and prospects by trading roster players to make the cap work is too good to be true.

Don’t get me started on this again... it’s way easier to protect the puck on your backhand.
Breakout, I agree with.
