Based on Pronman’s list and Wheeler’s list from the Athletic, I want
-Connor Zary,
-Dawson Mercer,
-Seth Jarvis,
-Jack Quinn,
-Anton Lundell or
-Mavrik Bourque.
Those are the 6 players both agree should be ranked between 9 and 18 for the 2020 NHL Draft.

And if they go as predicted, we won’t get any of them. Pray for one or more to drop.

I guarantee that at least one of those players will be available where the Flames pick (specifically Mavrik Bourque).
This is going to be a bit of a crazy draft.

I predict one of those forwards will drop to the Flames because defencemen will be picked higher than they are ranked.

They have a deal right now where you can sign up for $1.25/month, so maybe it ended at the best possible time.

There is a lot of buzz about the Flames going with a D man round one. I still think they go after a forward, and pick their D men in the second and third round.

That would be drafting by positional need and not "best player available" which just isn't how they've done things under Tree.
The d-men that will be available around that pick will either be a huge reach (Barron, who is a 2nd rounder) or someone with a low ceiling (Schneider).
Connor Zary, Dylan Holloway, Jacob Perreault, Mavrik Brouque - they're all projecting way too good to not pick.

The fact the Flames drafted Andersson in round 2 gives me total confidence is finding some good long term projects in the 2nd and 3rd round.

The idea of drafting by position drives me nuts. Trying to predict what an organizational need is 2 or more years in advance is difficult to the point that it is rarely accurate.
Having said that, if your scouts have some guys on par with each other, I can see going for position. At 19th, there could be a few players that they have ranked the same, therefore drafting by position could come into play.

In the Athletic mock draft, Cruickshank selected Schneider for the Flames. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to trade it.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I hope there is a way we can move up in the draft and get Askarov.

Folks have been bringing up Ozzy Weis last as a Flames target but I also think his fellow team mate Iyla Usov would be a solid grab as well. Like a 6th round pick kind of grab.
52 points in 58 gp in his 1st year.
Belarusian, Center 6'1 and has some really nice finish.
Playing with Minsk right now has 1 point in 4 gp.

Askarov and Wolf as a pair? With Parson still marinating as well? Thats Columbus levels of goalie development depth.

On Ozzy Wiesblatt, Max Bultman from the Athletic identifies him as a target for one of the Red Wing's 2nd round draft picks. Excerpt from the article below:
Quote:
Ozzy Wiesblatt, RW, Prince Albert (WHL)
Pronman’s rank: 32
Wheeler’s rank: 52
Central Scouting rank rank: 19th among North American skaters
Why he fits: Another 5-10 forward with a highly rated offensive skill set, Wiesblatt earned 60 grades from Pronman in skating, hockey sense and puck skills. Those accompanied a below-average grade in his physical game.
But as Prince Albert coach Marc Habscheid told Pronman, “He competes well. He has a swagger about him. He wants to be in pressure situations. He has a quick stick and quick feet, and he is smart offensively.”
Detroit has some prospect depth on the wing in Jonatan Berggren, Robert Mastrosimone and Elmer Söderblöm, but not enough, and Wiesblatt could be a nice addition to that group.
Berggren and Mastrosimone are also smaller players off the flank, and in general the Red Wings could certainly stand to be a more physical team. That’s one potential reason for pause. But Detroit also needs significant help creating offense, and Wiesblatt was already over a point per game in the WHL last season. In that sense, Pronman’s write-up on Wiesblatt has to be enticing.
“He’s very quick and skilled,” Pronman wrote. “He makes skilled plays at full speed and is a handful for defenders to stop when he comes barreling down on the rush. His hands stand out, with extremely quick twitch touches and ability to inside out defenders. He can attack in a direct style, but also has great vision and can pull up to make a tough play.”

It would be bad to me. Schneider is a low-ceiling player.
If he were a few days older, he would have been in last year's draft. He produced a lot of his points on the PP and from secondary assists.
His utility in Jr. comes from how physically mature he is - he's a man playing in a boys league.
I want no part of Schneider. Drafting a stay at home defenceman in the first round is barf city in my eyes. I would much sooner see them trade that pick than pick Schneider.

I know he is still young and goalies can be a wildcard, but I'm not overly excited over Parsons' development so far. This Askarov looks like a machine.

He is living up to his hype so far in the KHL this season. He's making everyone look silly. Its insanity.
Its too early still to cash out on Parsons. Goalies require patience, except for McDonald, he fell flat on his face the year after his draft as well.
I'm still not giving up on Gillies being an NHLer either. I see him and immediately think of Jack Campbell who many had written off as well.
Theres just no room for Gillies in CGY now. He had to take steps to get the #2 seat in the NHL and he won't get it here because he just hasn't recovered from the delay his hip surgery caused.
