I don't understand why some people are so keen to dump Monahan and move Lindholm to center. There will still be a huge in the top six if that happens and if Lindholm transitions poorly we are hooped.

You hit it on the head here. Very true. I can’t help getting emotionally involved though. That’s just me.
Also I’m not inventing stuff. I agree that he has made moves. Just not the right ones. Hence my disappointment. You can’t win them all but as a fan I want nothing more then for the Flames to win. When they don’t I become whiny and here I am.......

Monahan does one of those very well, a couple decently, and the rest poorly.
Since it's mostly the things that don't show up on the stat sheet that Monahan does poorly, it's difficult for fans to talk about the big deficiencies in his play. But I'm confident that the Flames braintrust are aware of them. They know how severe of a handicap it is when opposing coaches lick their chops at line-matching against the Flames, knowing what a matchup advantage they have whenever the Flames top line is on the ice.

This is very accurate. And when he’s not doing the first very well, as in this past year with 22 goals, it’s a big problem.

But you did invent stuff by characterizing the GM as blithely inactive and content with the status quo. Like I said, there are certainly things about which to be critical in Treliving's record, but his complacency is not among them.

Okay I take back that point then but I stand by my gut feeling on the guy. I hope he proves me wrong this off season but I’m not confident in his ability to turn this team into a true contender.

I don't fully agree with a lot of this, but there isn't much I vehemently disagree with either.
For me, the reality check is simply contract status. Are we close enough to make it happen in the next 2 years? IMO not very likely.
Could it happen after that when we are paying the same players (Gaudreau+Tkachuk) more money? Sure, but IMO it's even less likely.
We don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water, but all of the evidence so far (aside from 4 great months in '18-19) suggests that the current path is unlikely to lead us to the promised land. So re-tool.

Steinberg says Markstrom is one of the Flames "top points of interest" should he get to free agency. confirmed by contacts in Calgary, Vancouver, and across the league.

Jacob Markstrom will be more than happy to accept the same $4.85 million contract as his best buddie, Elias Lindholm.

Much better than giving up a 1st for Kuemper in my opinion. Makes me think that if they do have a 1st on the table for Kuemper it would be the 2021 1st because unless they secure Markstrom's rights they'd have to wait until after the 2020 draft to find out whether they can sign him or not.
Did I read somewhere that Markstrom is good friends with Lindholm? Not that it matters much I guess, I remember hearing how Hamonic was "good buddies" with Tavares too leading up to his free agency. Still, can't hurt I guess.

Markstrom is my first preference. Man would I be stoked if he signs with the Flames!
The only reason that it is even conceivable is the expansion draft - the Nucks are really in a tough spot in that regard. Not only would they lose one of them, but they are in a jam with the cap, so even signing him presents other challenges for them.
They do have the option of signing him and then trading him before the expansion draft, but that 1) doesn't solve the cap problem for this year, and 2) the market will be small, and the return substantially deflated, prior to the draft.
If you're Benning, how do you play it?

Signing Markstrom would be great.
Add Hall while we're at it...

Yup, go after all the UFA goalies before bleeding more future for one.
Then yeah, sign Hall.
Then do the draft and make them trades.

Hall would be a big piece of an offseason win.
Markstrom AND Hall would be an EPIC offseason!

Friedman says the Canucks are looking to 'overhaul' the defence and singled out Ekblad and Cernak as defencemen that could be available.

Markstrom would be a great get for the Flames. The only thing the Flames may have to be worried about is term.
Certainly sounds like he isn't asking for a lot of money though. The only hold up with the Canucks is a NMC or dollars to replace the NMC.
