Edit - Lol, you guys are crazy. He looks the exact same now as he did 2 years ago with Carolina. Legit, go watch his old games and then watch his new ones. Nothing has changed.

And that's not even a bad thing. He's a young d-man who can do a lot of good. But he's never going to be more than a solid #3 - #5 guy.
We said Gio was a 2nd pairing guy at best back in the Bouwmeester days - “who’s going to play those 26 minutes a night?’ We wondered. Well, the should-be 2x Norris trophy winner, that’s who.

If the last two years are Hanifin’s floor, he’s going to have a 15 year career and make $60M+.

I don’t see the high end offensive game in him at all, he just isn’t that sort of player.

But could he be Brodie?

I don’t see why not.

One thing we need to consider with Hanifin is for 2 years he played with Hamonic who has proved that he is fantastic at making his d-partners look like absolute trash.

Do people remember the desire to shoot Brodie to the sun when he was playing with Hamonic? Brodie goes back with Gio he is back to a solid top 2/3 Dman

People often comment how Hanifin looked good with Andersson.

Starting to think all Hamonic did here was be a great guy in the room/community and completely ruin his defensive partners game

When Giordano was 23, he just finished his first NHL season where he had 48 games. He played 7 the year before. He was pretty much just graduating from prospect to being a 3rd pairing defenseman.

I think Hanifin could develop a similar path as Brodin. Was an established NHLer early, but never really took off until he was around 23-24. Roman Josi in another one that didn't really take off until he was 23-24.

Cost us in all likelihood at least one legitimate NHLer who would be tram controlled for 7 years. Just a terrible trade, was bad at the time, looks worse now.

Agreed. Hanifin looked like a completely different player with Andersson. Reminded me of when Bouwmeester played under Sutter vs when he played under Hartley.

MOST defensemen don't take off until they are at least 23-24, and often later. (defensively)

I good comparison is Hamilton - tons of talent, but couldn't quite live up to it and put it all together until his 7th season when he was 26

And that is pretty normal.

I admittedly liked the trade when it happened but I thought the Flames were a better team than they were when they made it.

Definitely has proven to be a big loss and easily the worst blunder when it comes to trades for Treliving.

We could be laughing at the Oilers for how much better Dobson is than Bouchard but instead we have one playoff win with Hamonic and his “great contract” in 3 years on the team. (I know the team won 2-5 playoff games this year but Hamonicwas not a part of that group)

I liked the Hamonic trade when I thought he was better than he was.

Seth Jones is a guy who, like Hanifin, was brought in really young, and it took him 5 seasons to blossom (and he was still only 22 when It happened).

Ekblad is 24, and is just starting to put it together (but is no where near a finished product yet)

Say what you will about Hanifin, nothing about his play indicates that he has peaked.

By the time Dion was traded, he was nowhere near the player he was his first three seasons. All his explosiveness had evaporated.

Basically the Wild can count on paying $6-6.5M for each guy for the duration of their contracts.

https://www.hockeywilderness.com/201...rto-luongo-nhl

I'm guessing the league lets them LTIR one of them, though. Probably Parise, since Suter is an incredibly impressive ironman; he's missed 9 games in 8 years in MIN (while average 27:30 ice time). Since his rookie year, he's only missed 6+ games in a season once (70 gp that year).

With 5 years of guaranteed cap struggle ahead there is an argument that they should try for one final run this [likely bizarre] season. But, realistically, a good rebuild will take 3-4 years, and any lingering cap hits would actually help protect them from themselves in trying to accelerate the rebuild too fast (and retains space to pay their new wunderkinds). The Staal trade indicates this direction, and there has never been a better time to tank.

I think they are more likely looking for picks and very young prospects for Dumba (perhaps with bad deals attached). I think there's a decent chance it's a 3 way deal.

Hopefully the Canucks sign Hamonic and pair him with Hughes.

RNH + picks for Dumba

MIN would definitely want to attach a conditional pick relative to RNH playing enough games to be available at the TDL.

This is probably impossible because Johansson has a 10 team NTC, but:

Dumba + Johansson for RNH + Larsson + picks would make good sense for both sides (except for how few picks EDM has)

Seth Jones was always expected to be what he became. That comparison is super disingenuous.
