I wonder if we could swap Lucic for Parise? Lucic's base salary is $1million this year, saving the Wild some real dollars

Right - if there is cap savings, that is part of the trade and part of the return.
However, in this case, the cap differential is only $375k, and would not make any appreciable difference to the overall stupidity of the idea.

I mean, Parise is also a substantially better player than Lucic. But it's a win-now type move that Calgary doesn't really have the window to be making.

Sure, but at 7.5m cap hit for the next 5 years.
That's a pass for sure.

Pat Steinberg mentioning that he does think the Flames will have significant interest in Hall in free agency.

For sure but does Hall? Even if the Flames sign Hall the best time to trade Gaudreau is before they sign Hall. Tough spot.

I could see Colorado dropping a dump truck of money on him on a 1 or 2 year deal to really push their chips all in.
Then the question becomes whether he's interested in the Flames.

I wouldn't worry too much about Johnny Gaudreau being traded effecting Hall signing with Calgary. He likely wouldn't have enjoyed being third on the LW depth chart behind JG and Tkachuk.

Gaudreau to the Wild for Dumba, Kahkonen and Beckman.
It's probably a terrible deal, hence why I rarely do these.

I remember there were at least a couple of posters with sources in the old trade rumours thread who said that Calgary was one of his desired locations, I think St. Louis and Edmonton were other teams that were mentioned?
That may have been before he was traded to Arizona though, so who knows.

Can Hall play RW? Seems like his style of play won't hurt his production coming off the off wing?

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
If they're that interested I don't see why they don't try to get his rights. Exclusive negotiating window. Unless they're confident Hall is a lock to sign in Calgary.

Remember, Tree is painstakingly slow on things. Think of it like a 5 second delay on TV, but instead it's weeks on his moves.

I could get behind a Dumba for Bennett trade but that is bad for the Wild

How many UFA goalies are really available that are good long-term options though? Markstrom and.......? With Lehner agreeing to a contract, the #2 UFA is Holtby who has struggled the last couple years. After that the top options are all at least 2 years older.

Parise only gets paid big bucks for 2 more years, it's one of the last of the big back diving contracts before the rules were changed. Last 3 years he only gets paid 2M-1M-1M, reasonable chance that he retires or could be traded as a cheap buyout / high cap hit to some cheapass like Melnyk. Parise gets paid 14M over the next 2 years and Lucic 11.375 (EDM pays $1.625) over the next 3 years. Parise is still a decent player who get 20-30 goals, CGY should be all over that deal but I doubt MIN would be interested. If Parise does retire MIN would also get hit with recapture so that lessens the chance of trading him before a buyout is reasonable, Parise also has a full NMC.

Reimer has one year left on his contract that pays him $3.4m per. Had solid numbers in Raleigh this year.
