Minnesota really needs a centre now and I have a feeling I know who it's going to be
expecting a Monahan to Minnesota move any day now.

Is this just a gut feeling or has there been any speculation on talks between the two teams?

But then the Flames desperately need a center?
Flames better be swapping 19 for 9 as well if that deal goes down

total gut feeling although guys on the radio have been talking for days now about a Monahan/Dumba swap, which I think has real merit

Taking a while to get to 5000

Maybe Ward really like Lindholm better at C? Doubt it but who knows. He did compare him to Bergeron at one point

Trading your top line centre for a middle pairing defenceman is mind blowingingly dumb. I refuse to believe this management team is flat out stupid enough to do that.

the question is, which Dumba are you getting?
Dumba in 2019-20: 6 goals and 24 points in 69 games
Dumba from 2017-19: 26 goals and 72 points in 114 games
the same question could also apply to Monahan given how much his game regressed this past year.

I sure hope not. I think that helps Minnesota way more then it would help us.

I dont know, the very same management team that over emphasizes the desire for defensmen over forwards?
Seems plausible to me.
If they trade from a position (center) teetering on abysmal (depth wise) for defensemen and keep LW over stacked just because, Ill be pretty upset.

Regressed? Monahans game hasn’t regressed since he entered the league. If you want to debate lack of improvement I’m all ears.

I mean yeah, but a big part of Monahan's value is that he goes to the dirty areas in the slot and scores a lot of goals and gets a lot of points. He doesn't really do a lot otherwise so a whole lot of his value is tied up in his production, which was the lowest it's been since he was a rookie.

I would definitely be concerned with a Lindholm-Backlund-Bennett-Ryan center group. Also weakens the team on the wings significantly with our only right shot RW in Lindholm moving to the middle

So we pencil Bennett in as our #1C?
Lindholm has not really played center for his entire NHL career and even then who plays RW.
Only way that makes sense is if Gaudreau actually returns Couturier which I would be shocked.
I'd rather just trade the top line for futures if the trade would be Dumba for Monahan

Right around typical of his steady career numbers had they played a full season. If anything the year prior was an anomaly, and he’s back to his average.

Well Monahan did go from a career high 82pts in 78 games to 48pts in 70 games so a steep decline in production similar to Dumba

What about Dumba+9 for Monahan+19?
Flames get to jump 10 spots in the draft. I am not advocating it but I could see it happening. Not sure I would be a fan especially if we are not adding a better C in a different deal

I would still hate it unless we get another center coming from somewhere else.

eh, sorta.
Monahan's P/60, career:
1.70
2.34
2.43
2.41
2.78
3.31
2.27
G/60, career:
1.10
1.17
1.04
1.12
1.35
1.37
1.04
he definitely had a bad season after some solid progression in the three years previous. but his shooting percentage was also the lowest it's been in his career so there is certainly the possibility it was a one-off

The whole team had an off-year from a production perspective (outside of Tkachuk).
Selling low is always bad form.
