Unless Ward changes his system for next year which I don't see happening I am on board the trade Johnny train. He can't thrive under that system.

I would argue that out of anyone in the league, Laine has the best tools to be a consistent 50 goal scorer. He's probably closer to a Kovalchuk than an Ovechkin, but that's still a top-end player.
Personally, if it came down to Monahan vs Laine, I don't think position really bears much influence on the decision, as I believe Backlund performs far more "number one centre" duties on this roster than Monahan. It really comes down to who you expect to be the better point producer, and I think Laine takes that.

Projecting to a regular 50? I'd say no one, but if pressed, I'm betting Matthews.

The same Lindholm that has never been a full-time center at the NHL level? Most of the forwards in the NHL are "natural centers", doesn't make them good NHL centers.

I would argue and win (based on the last 4 years) that David Pastrnak has proven to be closer to a 50 goal scorer than Laine. Not even close.
Laine is going the wrong way.

Auston Matthews when healthy is a good goal scorer.
Overrated for sure. But the guy can score.

I just don’t know how the Flames add OEL and who would be going the other way? Feels like Hanifin for sure which is not a good deal for the Flames.

Too much smoke for there not to be any fire. I have a feeling we go into next season with Hall and Kuemper. No idea what Tre is planning with that defence though. I have heard rumblings that he has checked in on Soucy, but not sure if he wants to leave Minny.

I would love to acquire Kuemper - BIG upgrade on Talbot and Rittich.
But I am scared to death of the acquisition cost.

Same here. I think I would be okay with pretty much anything if Tre can keep our 1st this year and next.

At some point you gotta start keeping your 2nds too.
I don't know what a reasonable offer would look like where you don't have to put some of that on the table though.
(Next year's draft isn't looking great based on early reports and with lack of proper development that may make it worse - would be more open to picks next year as long as they are lotto protected)

I could definitely see a deal where the 19th pick is involved in a trade that brings back Kuemper and a signed Taylor Hall. This would then solidify a trade for Gaudreau where a first round pick is part of the return.

Yes, but the Flames seem to like to use a 2nd on goalies every other season. If using that 2nd gets us Kuemper, then that is a good use of a pick, IMO.

I honestly just want Tree to finally jump all in on this group. I think his vote of confidence in Ward shows he doesn't want to abandon what he thinks is close to a winning team. I'd happily fire out picks in the 2021 draft to finally "complete" this roster - but I do want this team to make it's pick at 19 and 49th this year. It's a strong draft.
If you can add in OEL, Kuemper, Hall and then a plethora of low-salary money-ball players while signing Mang to a 1-2 year cheap deal and the main cost is Hanifin, Ryan and a swath of picks (2-3 top 60 picks in 21 and 22)? I'm cool with it. Go in. Go for it.

I agree 100%
It's really valuable to have players like Dube, Kylington, Anderson, and Mangiapane make significant contributions while on their ELC's.
A great goalie would do wonders for this group though- tough to gauge what an actual deal would look like given the Arizona situation, covid, etc. Lots of question marks.

Trading for a signed Hall makes no sense - why go that route and give up assets to ARI?
Hall isn't going to sign there, only for them to trade him. And for the Flames it makes no sense either.
Either trade for his rights, or wait until he is an FA.
