Ward seems like a nice guy, and I hope he surprises us!

The expectation bar is on the floor right now so that will help a bit lol.

Ah well. It was fun for a while envisioning what a top head coach could do with this roster but I suppose we will never know. Ward's not terrible but he needs to show better in his next season for this to be looked on as a good decision.

This sort of passes the smell test? If that makes any sense. Clearly they (ownership) are averse to paying for a top tier coach. Are they balking at the price tag? According to Burke, no. But they clearly don't believe its worth paying top dollar. I get the impression that they just don't believe there is a difference between a high priced coach and one that demands less.

For the record I believe they feel the same about goaltending. League average is what they seem to target. And management carries out ownership's mandate.

At some point the fact that the Flames can't get it done in the playoffs should fall on the shoulders of the Players and not the coach. There needs to be some accountability, and sending the coach out the door and not players as unfairly taken the cross hairs off the Flames core ( where the real problem resides).

So many lives does Treliving get when it comes to coaching? This has to be it right?

Or maybe this is what Treliving wanted all along? I don't have a lot of faith in him to make a great decision when it comes to the coaching position. For better or worse this is Brad Treliving's Calgary Flames.

How can you use the word clearly in either of those sentences?

Meh.

I'll give him up to 15 games of the 2020/2021 season to turn the team around and see some positive changes. If not, then no Flames hockey for me next season...not worth the time/effort to watch the same old ####.

I’m not fussed. IMO this team’s issues aren’t with coaching at the moment. It’s team makeup.

I don't think we should assume that. We don't know if the owners won't pay for a top tier coach, or if BT simply hasn't selected one.

Well OK time to move on to the roster now. Frankly if next year is a disaster it will be easier for new GM to bring in their own guy.

As for Peters being hated in the room. Yeah no #### Francis. That's his MO and it was clear the team had quit on the guy. He sounds like a class A jerk before we learned he was a racist and I'm glad he's gone. You can be a hard coach without being a bad person.

Disagree with Bingo that the goalie yank was fine. Rittich was not ready in any way to play and in a tie game, the next goal was critical. The pull itself cost the team a shot at winning the game.

I voted that they would bring him back but shouldn't. What I observed as the team ripped off a big winning streak when the change was made, then went back to being a middling club. And I felt the goalie situation was poorly handled in a critical moment - which is when you need your coaches to be composed and a source of calm and rationale decision making. Instead it seems like the communication totally broke down in the moment, and he played a factor in not giving his team the best chance to turn the game.
But here we are: and indeed perhaps the economic climate played a factor.
Will be interesting to see if that also impacts potential roster moves.

I don't like this. Next one on the chopping block has to be Brad himself, so he better be sure of this.

Why not extend him months ago? His playoff performance didn't help his cause at all.
