This has all the hall marks of a Flames trade.
"Top" D-man that's never really shown to be that good (Bouwmeester, Hamilton, Hamonic).
"Great goalie" that has maybe a season worth of top tier play after being fairly average (Mike Smith, Elliott).
A great forward that's languished on bad teams (Jokinen, Langkow, Cammellari)
Giving up a #### tonne of picks (All those trades)
I think this would be a colossal mistake. Take a run at one of the many goalies that are in UFA or wait to see if a team grabs a goalie and make theirs expendable. There's a chance there will be a good goalie available for cheap by November.

I hate trading away 1st and even 2nd round picks. I guess part of the fandom for me is picking these new young guys every year and watching their development. It is part of the whole experience for me as a fan. If we aren't getting a surefire, can't miss upgrade when we trade away a high pick I don't like it.
It would be fun to have a couple of picks in the top ten in the next couple of years, but of course that comes along with a couple of years of sucking which makes it less fun. 19 isn't bad this year I guess, in what I have heard is a deep draft. If it's not a guaranteed home run, keep the first.

It is actually right in line with what has become quite typical FW fodder to take the absolute least favourable position with respect to the Flames. He would no doubt take exceptional delight in this terrible deal, and we would never hear the end of it.

I would trade a first for a young blue-chip goalie, but not for a 30 year old. It makes my stomach gurgle to think of trading that pick.
I know that Tre and Maloney have familiarity with OEL, but bringing on that brutal contract should get them fired. I hope these rumours are BS.

They have a a few nice pieces I would like, like Hayton and Keller, but they aren't going to trade them. Coyotes have always been bland as hell.

OEL is a pig with a lot of makeup on it. Edit: Strike that, Oel is just a pig with no makeup. That contract is awful awful awful.

I want nothing to do with arizona trades at all. I am so sick of calgary GM's trading high picks for magic beans. All the talk of being patience and building the right way. If this trade happens we will once again be battling for 8th in the west and swimming in mediocrity.
BT needs to realize they jumped the gun early and have not built a contender. With some patience the team could be great, time to sell off a few assets and restock the cupboards. Could be in a great spot come 2022 season.
I sure hope this is just a rumor
