It’s wrong and short sighted and will lead to troop increases in the future because the utter lack of any plan will create power vacuums that are never filled with anyone we’d consider an ally of the west and it will get worse but hey plans are for dumb dumbs. Americans are also pretty much banned from travelling anywhere, and people in other countries banned from travelling to the US. Although again it is impressive how little they even care about optics, this isn't asking for much and they still won't do it.

How large is this list? Canada wouldn't be on it. There's no travel ban to the US, just land border crossing.
US itself is only banning China, Iran, Europe (most) and Brazil (EDIT: technically banning people who have been in those places in the last 14 days, so a German citizen, for example, could travel from Germany to Mexico, stay 14 days and then fly to US if they really really wanted to). Other countries may have had their own bannings preventing citizens from travelling to the US but I'm not sure how many of them exist.
But yeah, symptom check for people coming to US is stupid. The conversation would be:
"Oh, looks like you're coronavirus free! Enjoy that for the next 5 minutes until you get outside the aiport and get infected!"
