7 years seems like a guarantee, but he has got some sort of model for projecting I guess.
EDIT: beaten to it by Bax

Should be noted that he projects Hall to provide actual value of $8.4/season. Pretty close to an actual potential contract.
For comparison a Brodie contract projects at $5.12 x 4 years, but he has Brodie's projected actual value at $3.5/season.

That would be a smaller contract than the last one he signed which was $6,000,000 x 6 years for $36,000,000 total. If he signs for $35,000,000 total this off season I will be awfully surprised.

If he is willing to sign for an AAV of 7m, it'd need to be a 7 year deal

...I mean yeah, it's impossible without a REALLY busy trading period for Tree at the draft - but my main point is just to stay out of the middle tier. All you get in that middle tier is poor value contracts and players to fall off a cliff at 31. Top tier players last well into their mid 30s, so that's the only group of players you should be looking at in free agency (outside of bargain bin deals like Versteeg's first year here).

Agreed.
I think he's going to come in around $45,000,000 to $50,000,000 total on his contract this off season.

Does anyone think there could be a potential deal for Johnny to the Islanders?
Gives them a star winger for Barzal, who would likely re-sign there.
Beauvillier & Dobson??

I hope that you're both right.
My guess is 9.5M for 7 years. I doubt Hall will sign, what is likely his last big pay day, for anything less than seven years. The fact that he is the best forward, and maybe the only star forward UFA will inflate his value to the point where he will barely be affordable.

He scored 17 in 68 games, and seven of those were scored in the final ten. There is almost no doubt that Mangiapane would have scored at least three in the last fourteen games.

He probably will be the top UFA, because I suspect Pietrangelo will re-up in St. Louis. I think Hall will opt to move on.

Byron Bader just tweeted his model/comparison of d-1 to d+x years of Cozens vs Point, and so far, Cozens has outperformed Point, albeit, slightly.
I like Monahan, but if he's the key piece that brings back Cozens, I'd be ALL IN on that kind of move. I think he'll be a more complete C than Monahan within 2-3 years.
Ideally, Gaudreau is the asset used to get Cozens, but I think Monahan is potentially a more valuable player to a team like buffalo.

I think Hall will sign the Duchene deal of 8M x 7 years. It represents less than what he was going to get before Covid and is also somewhat of a discount to prove he wants to win by not chasing the Panarin, Tavares cap hits.

I agree with this 100%.
I am not a huge fan of moving Monahan for futures but if it is Cozens my tune changes. It is the type of retooling I am interested in. The thought of Monahan+19 for Cozens+8 would be a huge step in the retooling process.
Cozens could play next year and the 8th pick is probably another year away. Worst case Lindholm slides to the middle of no other center upgrades are brought in

Two goals in 10 games in the bubble so there is that.

I see no reason to believe that a Gaudreau trade will work out. Who did Buffalo get for O’Reilly?, Toronto for Kessel? Boston for Seguin? no one even remembers the return on these trades. If anything these trades show that the Flames should be trading spare parts for other teams disgruntled stars.

Is Cozens someone who would actually be available or is this just spitting in the wind?

Depends how desperate you think Buffalo is to appease Eichel.
I would say they are pretty desperate.

Interesting.
For 10 games he was on a 50+ goal pace season.
For 58 games he was on a 10 goal pace season.

It's all from Buffalo's need to "act now" and start winning to show Eichel they're committed to it. I doubt we'll hear much in the way of actual rumours, but I'd expect that week of the draft to be bonkers from a trade perspective.

It is speculation based on the comments from Eichel and what the Sabres organization is likely going to have to do. They fortunately have a fair bit of cap flexibility and the goal will be to get this team to the playoffs next year.
Ultimately they need to appease their franchise player before he requests a trade and Eichel more or less put the organization on notice based on his end of season comments. The first reaction was changing GM’s now they will need to find players.
When looking at Buffalo’s needs a #2 center is likely the top of the list. Monahan with 3 years term on a solid cap hit of 6.375 would be an ideal fit for that role. While many believe Cozens will grow into that role it likely is not in his rookie season and therefore moving him for a more established piece makes sense. Monahan is not a rental and is in his prime age so the fit from Buffalos side is perfect.
For the Flames they would be hoping to get their long term center for Tkachuk, and free up some cap space while undergoing a swift retool

I've been against trading Monahan, but that is a tempting package if we can sign Hall (might not be possible if we're trading our top center). I would normally say Buffalo wouldn't make that deal, but they are an absolute mess right now.
Hall - Backlund - Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Cozens
Dube - Bennett - Mangiapane
Lucic - Gawdin - Rieder
Then potentially add someone like Perfetti next year.

No way to I trade for Cozens just to screw his development up by putting him on the wing.
Gaudreau - Cozens - Lindholm.
