Then I’m even more interested as he doesn’t have their value due to his cap hit.

He also has a full NMC, don't really see him waiving it out of the goodness of his heart.

So basically another quiet offseason where we do nothing at the draft and roll into next season with the exact same roster and coaching staff?
If that’s the case I hope Treliving has some cushy unemployment benefits.

He does. He has a 3 year extension.

No GM (or coach) has job security. They all have some financial security however.

I say that in the perhaps naive hope that if he decides to give everyone another good ol’ kick at the can and they predictably flop, he’ll be shown the door.
I know in my heart the ownership group is probably encouraging him to change nothing because they (barely) made the playoffs. This organization’s gold medal.

The Flames have a total of four defensemen signed for 2020–21, and only one goaltender. I think there is almost no chance it will be a quiet off-season.

Having read through every page of this thread (it's my daily dose of hockey reading), reading with interest as people have gone back and forth on different players in and different players out. I have to say that I prefer some of the packages people have touted from Buffalo, more than those from Philly. I can't see them moving Couturier, Konecny maybe, but the thought of taking back old bad contracts to make it work just doesn't appeal, especially as we have a one of those already.
Anyway, carry on as you were, I need more reading material.

I would not accuse Treliving of being quiet at the draft. He has made big trades at almost every draft

Treliving probably has more noise around him during the draft than any other GM. Honestly, he's probably got a clear lead at the top.
He's made massive trades/almost massive trades every draft.

If Cheveldayoff walked up to Treliving and offered Laine for Monahan would you guys do it?
Note that this isn't a rumor, just a random thought I had and wondered how CP felt about it.
We can try and offer sheet/trade for Cirelli to grab a top 6 center again. Laine could be pretty deadly with Gaudreau.

This is an excessively whiny comment given that it is patently untrue.

Not a chance.
Wing is our strongest position and center is our weakest. This would make that substantially worse. Also, Laine is very one-dimensional.

I'd think long and hard about it but honestly, I'd rather trade Gaudreau for Laine. LW is a position of relative strength, if you count Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Lucic, Dube and maybe Bennett as LWs (or able to play that side anyway). C is not. Right now the only RHSs on the team up front are Lindholm and Ryan.

I love Monahan and think he part of the solution, but you do that move every day. Laine already has 138 goals and just turned 22. For reference Monahan has 56 more goals but has played 236 more games.
Goal scoring is the hardest thing to do in the NHL and Laine is one of the best at it.

Yeah, I would - I then go after Hall as well. Failing finding another centre, I then roll:
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Hall - Dube - Laine
Gaudreau - Bennett - Lindholm

That's kind of nutty. I much prefer:
Hall · Backlund · Tkachuk
Gaudreau · Lindholm · Laine
Mangiapane · Bennett · Dube

Ugly down the middle. And kiss JG's points goodbye with 3rd line minutes. Also Lindholm. Why would you not at least have JG with Backlund and Tkachuk or Dube/Laine (or Lindholm/Laine).

Not speculation or rumors, but some fun tidbits from the Versteeg interview on Chiclets:
-Left Edmonton camp to sign with Calgary because Tre came to him and promised a bigger role which the Flames followed through on.
-Media credited midseason turnaround to Gulutzan letting them have beers on the train, but what really loosened the team up was Monny and Johnny finding Versteeg's friend naked in the sauna and thinking it was Brad Pascall
-Thinks Tkachuk is exactly the type of player you need to win with the NHL. There is nobody more annoying and as talented as Tkachuk. Calls him an elite player, elite around the net and below the goal line, and has sky high hockey IQ. Holds guys off and can create so much.
-Versteeg pulled Tkachuk aside after he got suspended for elbowing Doughty and told him not to change.

You roll 3 lines all the same during 5v5 play. Players get their extra minutes during Power Play/Penalty Kill. Teams wouldn't be able to keep up during 5v5 play.
