I don’t understand how they would even cover their bubble costs. Let alone actually pull in profit.
I’d be interested to know how much this has cost them to run.

Player salaries are most of their expenses, and technically those go down as profits go down.
So probably it's more a question of "is it worth it for the players to show up".
For the multimillionaires in the group, who mostly control how the NHLPA goes, it might not be.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Back on topic. We're approaching 3 weeks since the Flames were eliminated. Still no word. Have to think something is up, it can't possibly take this long to remove the interim tag/work out a contract etc or even hire his own assistants I would think.

^ Reirden (thankfully) snatched up. Yeo? That genuinely scares me.

It is being reported by multiple sources that the league has finalized the dates for the draft and free agency. The draft will go October 6 & 7 and free agency will start October 9.
Regardless of when the next season actually begins, you have to think Treliving will want the coaching staff finalized prior to the draft, which is less than a month away.

You're probably right, but.
There's always a chance that in these weird times something is going on behind the scenes that is taking all of Trelivings time and/or energy. Or that negotiations (with Ward or someone else) are in limbo because it's an unprecedented situation to negotiate in and something else needs to cleared/sorted out before things can move forward.
Making any significant new financial commitments must be really difficult in this situation. Leaguewide income suddenly tanked, the future of the whole economy is currently unclear, and it's not even being 100% guaranteed when the next season will start, let alone what it will look like.
At the very least both sides in a contract negotiation would likely want to spend a lot more time than usual to go over the details of the contract.

It's odd how quiet it is around the Flames as well. We've heard of what's going on in Washington, but nothing with the Flames.
Could Tree being keeping it quiet because Ward is the back-up plan and he's out there quietly trying to bring someone else in but if it falls through he's trying to protect Ward from being known as the back-up plan?

I still don't see how Tre could keep it this quiet without some sort of smoke...

I think it is rather not that difficult in the COVID age. If no one is actually leaving their home or office, then where would any smoke even come from?

I Think this is it. A few of the more experienced coaches are waiting on a few other job possibilities. I can see Ward being Tre’s third choice. If he only gets to pick one more coach in his time here I can see him waiting for the right one.

Or maybe Tree isnt going to be the one hiring the next coach. Unlikely, but possible.

I don't know, the fact that no reports have surfaced of anyone interviewing for the Flames worries me. Whenever a team interviews for a head coach it always leaks who they interviewed or at least the process is happening, look at the Capitals right now. The fact we have heard nothing scares me into thinking Ward is going to get the gig.

Sure hope this is true.
Also kinda glad Dallas has advanced as far as they have as I would expect Bowness has earned the right to have interim removed from his title....one less team for us to compete with on a coach hire.

I guess in the sense that anything is possible. Treliving is the General Manager, and he is less than a year into his new contract. I think it is more than just unlikely that he is not hiring the next coach—it's a lot closer to implausible.

Have to think if Ward was the guy they would have already announced it. Unless they are going to interview a bunch of people only to default back to Ward after the fact, which would feel odd.
My guess is they are waiting for more post-playoffs dominos to fall. Although there are good folks available now.

Coaching candidates may also be waiting for the post-playoff dominoes to fall. I bet no coaches hires are announced before the SC is won.

Or maybe someone being hired to sit over top of Treliving.

In his last contract negotiations we were led to believe that he required more final say over hockey decisions. So having someone come over the top is unlikely.
I think the notion that BT isn't going to be calling the shots here for the next year (at minimum) is wishful thinking for some. There has been zero suggestion or buzz that a change is even being considered.
