Of the 24 teams in the bubble five on five Vancouver was
CF% 22nd
xGF% 22nd
HDCF% 19th
PDO 2nd
Calgary went through this with Kiprusoff for 8 years.
A goalie is part of a team, so you can't say this wasn't a Vancouver success story, but teams need to be careful not to over hype some playoff success when it largely came down to the play of two goaltenders.

I sure hope managment and ownership in Van buy in to the hype. Keep trading draft picks and possibly a nice stinky UFA contract or 2

Watching three playoffs in particular makes me so angry how the Flames have failed to address goaltending, the most important position in hickey, particularly in the post season.
The Flames should have been planning for Kipper’s retirement long before his best before date and had multiple Plan Bs in the works in the event their prospects did not pan out, which of course in typical Flame like fashion is exactly what happened.
Edit: Band aid solutions do not qualify.

Lehner just had 3 shutouts in one series and was traded at the deadline.

He was good but he probably had one game worth of chances against in those 3 games. He made a great save last night...Vancouver also had 3 high danger scoring chances lol
lowest I can ever remember

I'm just glad that the clearly best team won as it would have been a travesty if the Canucks could have fluked their way into the Conference final. I know everyone likes a good underdog story but playing garbage hockey while your goaltender bails you out should never get rewarded IMO. I can see a false sense of the Canucks arriving ahead of schedule based on a playoffs where their goaltenders were all-world and the rest of the team really wasn't that good and that's the best thing to come out of this as a Flames fan.

I suppose despite the constant skepticism and negativity around here that's what makes CP classier than most forums.
Flames fans gathering to celebrate on an oilers or canucks forum would not be tolerated nearly the same way.
But i don't understand why we would do that in the first place.
All I know is that tire pumper Barca can suck it!

Well that's just it - this is the Flames forum. I'm sure Olier/Canuck fans were celebrating Tampa's win in '04 just like we were celebrating Carolina's win in '06 and Boston's win in '11. Nothing unusual or wrong about celebrating the failure of rival teams.

That’s true, I guess I just don’t like the passive gloating by some non-Flames posters and then their quick absence once they are eliminated. Their are Oiler and Canucks fans that do this regularly on this site. Some mean well some have other motives.
Canucks fans vehemently hate the Flames, just check their reddit page when we play them, some people on here forget that. If you would out yourself on a Canuck site as a Flames fan you would be getting banned. It’s just an odd aspect about CP, it leaves way for a lot of trolling and I come here to chat with Flames fans, not get Canucks or Oilers fans opinions on our team or theirs.

no kidding, I got called out for trolling because I was posting legit stats showing how bad the Canucks actually were and they didn't have heart, great d, the rest of the BS ect. They had luck and amazing goal tending.
Imagine that...being called out for trolling the Canucks on a Flames message board

30 years of mediocrity and losing tends to do that to fanbases. This organization has won a 1st round matchup exactly once in the last 16 years and the owners should consider themselves lucky that people are still willing to pay to watch this team perpetually spin it's wheels. Vegas in their first three seasons has has more playoff success than the Flames since 2004. Think about that for a second before you start beaking off about negativity here and be happy fans still have a passion to follow and post about the team regardless of their opinions.

I've been posting here regularly for almost 20 years now. I don't feel like my fandom should matter in regards to how you choose to accept me. You should extend the same respect to me that you do other regular long time members.
Edit - that isn't to say mocking the Canucks or my fandom sould be off limits but youve definitely gone beyond that with me before.

I can't believe you've done this.
At the height of that I tried to get Textcritic to change your user title to "Raised a Canuck fan".
He shot it down

Yeah there's a lot of reasons why CP has a few solid posters from rival team fanbases, including the overall high quality of the discussion and the resident Flames fans here and a decent job by the Moderators to allow rival fans to post here and even celebrate their teams' victories but ban those who are clearly here only to troll and incite.

That's actually what I like most about CP. Because of the quality of discussion on this forum and creating a place where respectful rival fans can exist, solid discussions happen about other teams and their players, with comparisons and parallels to the Flames. It's a pretty unique situation that typically doesn't happen on other forums because their moderators can't get past their juvenile hatred of rival teams.

I just don’t like Canuck fans and find your posting arrogant, sorry this is a Flames site. Congrats for being a member for that long, I really don’t understand the point of being on a rivals forum and then gloating about your “bright future” and passing the flames and Oilers. You can block me tho.
It seems like other people are fine with it tho so I’ll just leave it at that.
Edit: I really could care less about how long anyone’s been a member for. I don’t need to show you any respect cuz you’ve shown me the same in the past.
