$700m in 2002 was worth $950m in 2017.
The average NFL franchise is worth $2.86b.
The average NHL franchise is worth $667m, or 23% of an NFL franchise.
So, if you want to compare them, Vegas paying $500m as an expansion team in the NHL would be the equivalent of an NFL expansion team paying $2.14b in 2017.
So, yes, I'm sure Houston paying 44% of what Vegas paid comparatively makes quite a difference in how their respective success following the expansion draft played out.

Like I said. When this all works out, I am going to have to come home and just make sure you don't do anything crazy.

It cost $700M in 2002, do you actually think an NFL expansion team will go for $950M in 2017?
https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeoza.../#1d6cbbe871d7
Here is an article from 8 years ago when they estimated cost would be $1.3 billion. I'm sure you can do the math.
That being said, read my post. The rules were set out in Vegas' favor massively. They took advantage of that.

I don’t hate this version of the Canucks nearly as much as the 2011 version. So it’s easier for me to give them credit this time around.
They’ve basically surpassed the Oiler’s rebuild with excellent drafting (no first overalls either) and also hitting on all their player acquisitions whereas the Flames have missed on too many of theirs. Horvat has turned into a great leader, Demko looks great and Pettersson + Hughes look like they’ll be true franchise altering players. I look forward to hating, loathing and despising this franchise for years to come.

Normally yes I'd agree with you, but 2020 is an F'd up year so who knows.

This should be a fun game to watch.
Lets hope Vegas spanks them good and puts an end to this.

Go Vancouver!
Feels weird to say but I like the team. Young, fast, talented + the scrappy underdog thing they have going on.
PS. I don't begrudge Van fans coming here to cheer on their team. For the most part they take their lumps and have a good sense of humour about it. It must feel good for them to actually have something to cheer for and to be hopeful about the team's future.
I look forward to when I get my optimism back for the Flames.

I hate the Canucks, but your all right man. Just wanted to say that as it's rare that we see good contributions from posters that aren't flames fans

The only thing that helps with the Canucks potentially going deep is that their fans can't gather in large groups to enjoy it. Yes, I'm bitter. It was cute for a while but this needs to end. Come on Vegas.

I like this team too, I have no shame saying that regardless if I'm a Flames' fan. I am first and foremost a hockey fan and they seem to be building their team the right way. No more Bieksas, Keslers or whatever the biting guy's name was. I can easily cheer for players who are young, skilled and play hard.
But definitely give it time. Once they establish themselves and a rivalry gets built we will be right back to hating them. At one point the Canucks were a bigger rival than the 0ilers were, so it will easily get to that point once their stars start getting accolades that we start to despise them.
I hate Vegas much more then I hate this version of the 'Nucks, so I hope they take this game 7. A great playoff goaltending story is also fun to watch.
Although very rarely does it ever seem to work out where the team around a brick wall goalie gets outplayed, yet that team wins the cup. Eventually it seems to catch up. Let's see how far Demko can take them.

I don't mind who get through to the next round now, but I can't say I love the thought of having a bunch of Canucks fans with big celebrations going on right at the same time that Vancouver's COVID numbers are back on the rise and all time highs.

Do I need to make a pube bet that the Canucks won't win the cup? Cause I will.
Vegas and Vancouver are 2 and 3 on my hated teams chart. I prefer a Vegas win tonight but them blowing a 3-1 lead and the Canucks getting destroyed by the AVS giving up 50 shots a game wouldn't be the worst outcome. Might even keep me watching the playoffs.
