Isn't "meddling" in trades and other player acquisitions basically his job? You know, as an AGM?

It is, that's why I said it.
It's the (ironic) fact its OEL was drafted while Maloney was GM of Arizona so it would be a prototypical Flames move to let him sell Tre (the assistant GM to Maloney in 2009) on this acquisition and leave the Flames in a terrible position.
So highly probable we give up a 1st and something for one of the worst contracts in the league.

Point still stands, but that’s a different Svechnikov. Andrei’s older brother Evgeny who has 4 points in 20 games to his name.
That was a miss of a pick by Detroit.

Highly probable? Treliving and Maloney didn’t sign sign that contract, they aren’t idiots.
This was nothing more that radio guys playing fantasy GM. This isn’t highly probable at all.

Ahh yes, my bad. I just scanned the surnames when going down the list of potentials. Had they not have traded the pick I assumed they would have ended up with Chabot.

Let's say that you're right, and it turns out that Gio has in fact fallen off a cliff. He has 2 years left on his contract. If you keep him and slide him down to the 2nd or 3rd pair, you have a servicable bottom 4 guy, and his contract goes away in 2 seasons.
But if you panic and dump him....

I agree with OEL, wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.
However, with Giordano I disagree. Flames aren't in a win now mode and shouldn't be pretending they are. They need to get as much back as they can for Giordano while the Norris season is still relevant. Flames need to maximize value, now. He's not a 25 year old, who had an off year.

Sorry I should have disclosed the sarcastic tone when typing that.
I'd hope they wouldn't, I hope they're smarter.
But you can never put things like that past the flames when it comes to questionable moves.

I am utterly amazed that the OEL discussion has gone on for as long as it has in this thread. There's literally pages of it.
That would be a ridiculously stupid move for Calgary to take on that contract. God help us if Tre is interested in taking that on.

Did I miss the announcement of some contest about who can say the dumbest things? Because if not, some of you must look up to Mike Milbury and the Oilers.

I could see this happening if its a 1 for 1 swap (NO 1ST ROUND PICK) and Arizona makes the dollars on OEL's contract 6.75M for us just so that it can get out of some term. That's the only way I MIGHT do this. Even then, I think OEL might be overrated.

I think the Fan960 boys just pulled the perfect troll job with this OEL stuff. Look at this! Look what a 15 minute segment has done here!
The horror...the horror.

you think the Coyotes organization on the whole would pay OEL 1.5m a year for 7 years to play against them?
I couldn't see the Yotes retaining one red cent of that contract in an OEL deal.
Matter of fact, I think Ottawa has their names written all over OEL.

I would consider taking on OEL for Gio + Lucic, or a Hanifin + Lucic.

Why Hanifin? That'd be the worst. We'd be paying a little less than double for such a marginal gain its ridiculous. And losing what? 7 years of age and mileage?
Sorry, but thats a big old DERP.

To play the Devil's advocate, the last time the Flames acquired a contract that everyone hated, they won that deal by a mile
