8.25M for the next 7 years, with a NMC. That's trading a problem for a much bigger problem.

yeah, I guarantee that if we trade that pick-someone like Mercer, Jarvis, Askarov, etc would be pulling on another team's jersey at pick 19.

Just wait one more year when Arizona is a bomb of what they were and OEL is at negative value.

Except that one year where we were tops in the west. The same year our best players blew it in the playoffs.

Give us Cale Makar for that series instead and see which way it goes.

What an addition to just add onto your roster at playoff time.

Yeah, they were one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs. The last few weeks of the regular season, everything was coming together for them.

I was surprised that so many people thought they were the preferred match-up at the time.

Colorado didn't even make it to the finals last year. And are again on the verge of being eliminated before the western finals this year. The way some of you talk about them you'd think they were the '85 Oilers. Stop making excuses for the continuing mediocrity of this organisation. We played like #### and got our ass kicked. Not that hard too understand.

You two are also ignoring that the Flames fell apart after the all star break. They didn't have a good season, they had an usastainably, ridiculously incredible four month run they weren't going to maintain. They are what they are. A bubble team in need of an enima.

What the hell is going on in this thread?

OEL is a disaster at $8.25M. If the Flames trade for him, I will be pissed. Livid.

But Gio PLUS our 1st? Are you kidding me? I would cancel my STs if they did that. Beyond ridiculous.

But wait! That's not stupid enough! Some of you want to trade Gaudreau for him?!? And throw in a pick!?

Please, for the love of God, tell me that this has all been tongue in cheek. Please.

If we're not rebuilding we have to be creative. Not saying I support any of the offers, but a path to being a contender is a little convoluted right now. Things are going to have to get a little wild for this to work.

They were a different team after the break and the top line never recovered. Johnny "hockey" died on that break and we lost our only superstar player.

I wouldn't even give our first alone for OEL.

Gio was hot garbage this year. And he hasn't led this team through sweet #### all. We would be better to be rid of him.

I think this is a much better idea than trading for OEL. I too like DeMelo. If the Flames were to bring back Brodie at a good number and for a good term and then sign DeMelo at the same, I think that would round out the defence nicely.

And then I think I’d be comfortable with trading Giordano for cap space and picks/prospects.

Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki - Brodie
Kylington - DeMelo
Gustafsson

Not a chance. Terrible trade that would destroy our cap.

That is a really short-sited view.

Yes, Gio had a bad year. But look a the circumstances - pretty tough situation for a 37 year old. And people have down years, it happens.

But if a team dumped guys after bad years, they would be perpetually selling low on assets. Probably the dumbest asset mgmt strategy there is. What organization does this all the time? That's right, the No Goods.

Let's say that you're right, and it turns out that Gio has in fact fallen off a cliff. He has 2 years left on his contract. If you keep him and slide him down to the 2nd or 3rd pair, you have a servicable bottom 4 guy, and his contract goes away in 2 seasons.

But if you panic and dump him for OEL, you get a guy that costs $1.5M more per year, who's play has already been sliding, who may or may not be better right now (very debatable, if Gio bounces back at all), and will continue to cost $8.25M for the next 7 seasons, which will be an absolute nightmare of a contract for at least the last 4 years, if not more.

Also, OEL is an LD. We don't need LDs on long contracts. If he was an RD, at least there would be that argument to make, but LD? Just stupid.

Trading Gio for OEL, straight-up, makes no sense for this franchise, never mind giving up picks as well.

I'll lose it if we let Don Maloney meddle in any sort of offer for OEL and his atrocious cap hit.
