Yup, just speaking in generalities. He may not make that kind of salary though, at least not if he's staying with the Blues. It's a flat-cap world right now, and there's already talk that this year's crop of UFAs may have to take less than they normally would.

Exactly. All these ppl saying we should trade the 1st. It's like they haven't been paying attention at all.
No more trading away the 1st! Way to many years of not drafting our way out of mediocrity

I am of the opinion we should be going for more firsts than less at this point, but imo OEL and Kuemper would make us a better team.

We’d be buying way too high on Keumper and selling way too low on Rittich and possibly even Gio.

The Flames have traded so many picks at this point that quite frankly it doesn't matter.
If you're going to trade that amount of picks you'd might as well trade them all.

Get draft picks.
Top ten pick for Jonny somehow some way
Hell, do Gio for Fluery if it gets VGK first this team needs a reboot.

If we trade our first, it had better be for a blue-chipper under the age of 21. Pick 19 in this draft is like a top-10 in other years.

Plus, there is a high likelihood of a faller at our pick.
This draft is almost as good as 2015 if it isn't the same. Just look at the first round in 2015, almost everyone in that round are great NHLers.

Yeah. I’m not interested in trading 1st round picks. Getting more 1st round picks? Yup!
The Flames need to realize they’re a mediocre, playoff-bubble team. And they need to retool/rebuild.
They don’t have a goaltender of the future who is anywhere close to the NHL (the current goaltender of the future has another year of junior).
They don’t have a #1 centre that drives play forward.
They don’t have a Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar, Miro Heiskanen type on the blue line (apologies to Valimaki if he turns into that).
They need those pieces. However deep the retool/rebuild needs to go to get those pieces, that’s how deep the retool/rebuild needs to go.

Neither is Gio. Problem for problem.
Keep the 1st but understand that in no way is Gio anything but a cap dump after the season he just had.

And Calgary traded that first for Dougie who turned into Hanifin/Lindholm. Not too bad, but could have been one of Barzal/Chabot/Connor/Svechnikov/Konecny/Boeser.

But honestly, does that not describe half or more of the league right now?
