If the Avs grab Murray, I'd be interested in the acquisition cost of Grubauer or Francouz. Obviously not likely a long term solution, but could be a solid tandem option at least if Talbot goes elsewhere.
Though I think it's more likely we trade for Murray, or Lehner re-signs in Vegas and we trade for Fleury

That said, I pass on Barrie too, and presume Brodie gets paid more to go elsewhere.
Time for Anderson to take that role (fully), and promote from within next year. (Valimaki, Kylington, others to get larger responsibility)

My only point was that Barrie is not really any better than Gustafsson, just more expensive.
All the turnovers and twice the price!

They're likely looking to run a tandem of Grubaeur and Murray, not just have one or the other.
If we ran Francouz + Rittich, we'd have one of the worst tandems in the entire league.
We have to improve upon the Rittich + Talbot tandem, Francouz doesn't do that.

Yeah I didn't really finish my thought that we'd need a better other goalie than Rittich as well to be the other part of the tandem.
Goalies are such an enigma year to year tho... I feel whatever we do will look like a failure/oversight. Years of disappointment getting ingrained I guess.

I think they sign Lehner unless he signs with Vegas. If that happens either Holtby or Fleury ends up in Colorado. I don't see them pursuing Murray, a lot of weariness by GM's there as he has a hard time staying healthy and I read somewhere how his game has regressed because he plays too deep in his net now. Of all the goalies available the only 3 I am interested in are Lehner, Fleury, and Talbot. I don't think we can get either of the first two so I think we see Talbot return.

My money is on Fleury to the Flames, as I think Vegas gives Lehner big money. Fleury is still good, and will get the Flames through a couple years until some of the prospects are ready / we see what we have. Ideally I'd like a Fleury/Talbot tandem. But if Talbot goes elsewhere for more money then that's when I'd be interested in a guy like Francouz if the Avs get a free agent too.
Some on here are interested in Markstrom (and I'd be more than ok if the Flames went this direction), but I see him going out east for big bucks, lots of suitors as there are a lot of teams that I think are in the position to offer and have the need. Even on a big new contract, wouldn't be surprised if he's the steal of the offseason, I think he's just getting into his prime.

Fleury comes with Vegas’ 1st round pick and I’m into it, otherwise I don’t touch that contract.

We got goaltending right 1 time since what 2003. And we rode that. Now since Kipper retired we have been wandering the goalie desert. I liked the Talbot signing, didn't mind the stop gap Smith trade, but none of it has produced a long term stable solution. Flames really need to ante up on something. Be it Lehner or Markstrom or a trade. We need 4 years of anchored goaltending IMO. Thats the window before the big scorched earth rebuild IMO.

It’s an impressive list of failure. It’s actually quite baffling that we haven’t hit on any of these goalies through pure luck.
Really poor work done by Tree. Exceptionally poor.

But he was in on Bishop and Fleury so there’s that.

I'm actually warming a little bit to the idea of Fleury. Two more years at 7M.
Basically, Andersson is getting Brodie's money, Fleury would get Hamonic's money, the extra 3M available probably goes to Mangiapane. So barring a trade where money is positive for the Flames, there is no cap left to sign Hall.
But if it comes right down to it, I think that Fleury would have a bigger positive impact than Hall would, and Calgary wouldn't be saddled with a seven year contract.

Fleury at $7M kills our cap situation. Are they going to give us a 1st to take him off their hands?

I don't know. I think the Flames make a deal of Rittich and Ryan to Vegas for Fleury with 25% retained. Puts his contract to $5.25M and is cost neutral in the first year. Vegas saves the following year. I think this is a win-win.

I am not on the Fleury train, but that is a deal I could get behind.
