I can see a stretch of hockey where we don’t win a game in 15 starts with Murray/Gillies combo.
Please don’t give up assets to have that as well.

With all the goalies available giving up assets for Murray seems like a bad idea

Ya seems like a hard year to move a goalie for any value. Hope BT avoids it

What did Allen get, a third?
Lets start with a 4th then.

If the Flames go after a goalie, they should target Korpisalo. He proved he could be a starter this season, and Columbus were confident enough in Merzlikins to sign him to a $4 mil deal. I could see Columbus as a destination for Gaudreau or Monahan.

Give them Edmontons 3rd (whichever year it lands). A free gift from the Oilers is Matt Murray. That'd be an amazing trade tree. We got Murray, Lucic and cap space to dump James "the real pariah" Neal.
I mean really, it couldn't possibly be written any better.

Agreed but not in exchange for Korpisalo.
He's not worth nearly Monahan or Gaudreau.

Korpisalo had a crazy Playoffs but he's been a replacement/below-replacement goalie his entire career.
No thank you.
If any trade involving Columbus & Gaudreau/Monahan happened, Korpisalo would likely be the least valuable piece in the traded.

I'm sure that Matt Murray would rebound nicely here. I would still try for Lehner first, though.

Agreed, as has been mentioned Goalies have inflated stats in Columbus and Korpisalo's numbers haven't even been that good.

In a world in which Bobrovsky takes home $10 m, and in which Lehner's back-up parter makes $7 m his number most likely starts with $8 m and term.
No thanks.

Gillies or Zagidulin as the backup on an NHL team is a non starter. We shouldn’t even be talking about it until they show they can do it. Until then you have a backup who can actually play in the NHL which shouldn’t be all that hard to find if needed.

I didn't talk about term or money in my post.
I simply said "Lehner would absolutely be my #1 choice"
There's a lot of non-believers in Lehner, which is why he had to settle for a one-year/$5M contract last summer.
If the market is low for him again this offseason, a 4-5 year deal worth $5M-$6M would absolutely be worth it for him.

Gillies is a free agent anyway. I suspect he ends up in Europe.

I suspect Gillies probably wrangles a two-year deal from some NHL team solely because he can be exposed in the expansion draft.
That team almost certainly will not be Calgary.

In a flat-cap world, perhaps he might have to take less. Most FA's are in that boat right now.

If the Flames traded for Murray and extended him, the back up would not be Gillies or Zagidullin. They'd either keep Rittich and have $8-9 million committed to goaltending or trade Rittich and sign a back up with experience in the $1 million cap hit range. Someone like Brossoit or Dell for example.
Trading for Murray and giving him the ball would be very risky. If it pays off though, you've got yourself a 26 year old starter with proven playoff experience and success signed long term for a pretty fair price.
