Demko may or may not be a legit NHL starter, because who ever knows what to do with goalie prospects, but if you were going to pick 5 guys who might be a starter, he'd be one of them. If I were the Canucks I'd probably let Markstrom walk if he wants over 6.5m or more than 4 years of term and take my chances that he's legit.

Not a chance in hell I would let Markstrom walk and go with Demko, unless Markstrom was asking for stupid money (like $9 or $10M) and I had no choice.
But I welcome the Canucks doing just that

If he's looking for that kind of money (and no one would pay that for a guy with one good year and even then no Vezina nom) they couldn't afford him anyway. They're going to have to cut salary somewhere, because they have to pay Hughes and Pettersson.
I just figure, you're a young team. You can either go with your 24 year old goalie of the future and have him develop along with your young players, or you can hitch your wagon to a guy who just turned 30 for a large sum of money and hope he doesn't decline just as your young guys are entering their primes.

Either way you are hoping...he is having a good game but Demko hasn't been good this season.

A prudent manager would be looking at all that talent in Vancouver and not rush things with heightened expectations.
I'd be trying to get out from under Tyler Myers paying whatever draft pick cost is necessary and then competing in the Talbot tier goalie market to buoy Demko to see what you have.
Sign the stars to max terms and then slowly build around them to compete during their 23-28 age range.
