The way it's been handled, I wouldn't be surprised if there's lawsuits filed in its wake.

It brings up a couple of questions:

1) When do they raise the banner for being a league leader in points earned per dollars spent?

2) How did 40 GMs get to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006? Is that when the Oilers had 38 owners? Were they all GMs too?
I don't know how they came up with that one of 40 GMs in NHL history. I did a quick look and going back to 1942, which isn't the entire history of the NHL but whatever, and I am seeing 55 unique GM that have won or lost in the cup finals.

Even if you only count GM from 1942 to 2006 then there are still 41 GMs that have accomplished that feat. Even Lowe's bio is no good and full of lies.

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation has finally announced the winning ticket for Aug. 7's record-breaking 50/50 raffle.
The winning number is A-37051557.
The lucky winner will take home just over $7 million...

blah blah blah....

The Oilers did not make it past the qualifying round of the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs.

i love how they just had to include that last line! e = ng!

My bad - skim reading and I thought it said the winner was taking home $14.1 million. That's still ridiculous, of course!

A new era in Oilers' history was ushered in when Lowe was named to the position of General Manager on June 9, 2000. With the announcement, the first-ever draft pick in Oilers' history replaced Glen Sather, who held the position since June of 1979. Lowe's appointment came a year after he was named Head Coach of the Oilers on June 18, 1999. Over those years the team's payroll was annually near the bottom of the league however the team was a league leader in dollars spent for points earned in standings including many playoff appearances. As GM, he became one of only 40 general managers in the history of the NHL to get his team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2006, losing in game seven to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Wow, the Oilers really can generate a fancy stat for anything.

I am the least productive person at the office, but I also use way less stationary and colour prints than anyone else. Yay for me?

It fails to mention that no player worth a damn would sign in Edmonton long term before the salary cap imposed parity.

Looks like Oilers are to incur cap overage penalties of about 670k for next year due to bonuses for Smith, Haas , Jones and Bear

That puts them at $5.25 million of wasted cap for next season. Seems to line up with how Holland was managing the Wings his last few years there. I can't wait for the off season to see what Holland has up his sleeve for next season.

The oilers and the sabres both managed to suck uncontrollably AND spend over the cap this season lol. It could always be worse as a flames fan!

I personally can’t wait for the Neal buyout.

I think I would prefer for the Oilers to stubbornly hold on to Neal and his contract until the bitter end, and in spite of years of utterly catastrophic on-ice play.

I doubt they buyout a 20 goal scorer.

I'm hoping for a buy out. Neal or Koskinen would be nice. Koskinen buyout goes to 23/24 season and only saves them 2 mil this season. Neal buyout is on this books until Leon contract is up. I also expect they buyout to blow it on someone else. They won't be getting a good ufa so that means trade. They don't have very many good prospects or picks either so if they want someone good their first and Bouchard would have to be in play.

Lol still with this? Neal is a liability....20 goal scorer on the top line maybe but I doubt that even now. If he was an actual 20 goal scorer they could trade him easily

unpopular opinion I'm sure, but maybe this thread should die until we can at least get out of the first round again?

This thread is about the city of Edmonton which is no good and the Oilers which are also no good.

Has nothing to do about the Flames.
