I agree. If anything I am not surprised at all as fans and the general public don't make decisions like an NHL GM, they make them with emotion and snap judgements. If the average Joe Public ran a hockey team every time a team failed they would be running the stars out of town. Then you have the equivalent of a HF fanboy in Francis adding to the fire and not surprising at all. He whined until Fleury left town he had to go, then it was time to move on from Jarome. Now it is Gaudreau and if he moves you can bet your ass he is banging the same drum about Matthew Tkachuk as his contract starts coming up.

I'm not a Laviolette fan. I'm not sure why. There is no doubt he is a good coach. Just preference maybe.
He seems like a jerk.

For me, I'd like to see Boudreau get the job because of his personality. He wears his heart on his sleeve, is great with the media, is a player's coach and loves coaching. I think fans would love him in Calgary.
I like Boudreau, but I think on Boudreau teams, the goalie needs to be one of the best, if not the best player on the ice.

I hate the Flames record of taking months to decide whether to keep their coach or not. By then, the best candidates are always gone and they hire some unknown.
Why does it take so long to make a decision?

Todd Reirden is a guy who has been there and knows how to get back there.

When asked about his coaching philosophy, Reirden replied “You have to be able to communicate with players, and you have to be able to create an environment where they enjoy coming to work but yet they are held accountable. It’s open, it’s fair, and yet it’s challenging. A lot of my coaching style is communication-based. That’s what I feel has been very effective in the past few years as I’ve climbed the ladder. I think the players would describe me as someone who is fair, honest, upfront and challenges them but also creates an environment that they enjoy coming in and being a part of.”

Because the best candidates respond to the flames by saying “thanks for the offer, I’ll get back to you later ....”
I wouldn't be upset if that is the case. He has paid his dues as much as any assistant coach in the NHL. The playoff bust was disappointing, but he had the team playing well for the most part before the COVID thing, and after taking over the reins unexpectedly.

I'm not squarely in the Ward camp at all. I think he's an NHL level coach but not at the top tier.
That said, I felt during the Dallas series that it was his coaching keeping the Flames in it against what we all know now to be a very good team. He had the Flames playing a structured game.
If the flames had the same points percentage under ward all season they would have won the west again. It's true that there are some seasoned coaches out there but what step forward are we expecting exactly? Playoff success? Laviolette is a mixed bag of championships and disappointments and Boudreau has never won a championship in the show.

Ward is a players coach, that got a bump for a month or so when he turned on the practice music and let them play soccer.
Then they reverted back again and were up and down into the new year.
They got a bump again from him when it came to months off and Winnipeg and his positivity, but long term, this group needs that the older school discipline guy for better or worse. No one was complaining about Peters last year, at all. He had those guys sharp and the best in the conference for 82 games. Hangover a bit this year after the regular season success last year, and then he was gone due to unforeseen circumstances.
Treliving though got the style he wanted in Peters after GG. I would be surprised if he doesn’t hire that style again.
Hopefully Ward stays around to be the good cop.

Coaching has little to do with the playoff failures around these parts in recent times....but obviously the core has remained more or less the same.......the common denominator.

This is where we could go back and forth. Players take the blame for execution, but coaches make mistakes that put the players in poor positions to succeed. Leaving tired players out, making a panic pull in net etc.

Yes we can. But a coaching carousel is an undeniable sign of rot somewhere in the system.
