It seems to be getting worse and worse too. When it comes to check swings and calls on the bases, I think most of the umps do a really good job; but god damn they are terrible for balls and strikes.

It's the newer philosophy of not letting a starter face hitters for the third time. I'm not a fan personally, but It's probably as much an upper management philosophy as it is Montoyo.

I'm behind in the game, but Captain Hook strikes again, pulling a guy after 84 pitches and has retired 12 in a row.
No matter what happens, that is is TERRIBLE decision.
And based on the fact that Font is coming in, I am going to predict this move blows up in their face.

Came to post the same thing as Crown Royal. This has to be something that is being somewhat directed from above.

Yeah, I don't get it in a vacuum, but last start he came out at the same-ish pitch count and the Jays gave up a bunch of runs that inning after he walked the lead-off guy.
Still, why not Borucki?

I predict your prediction is correct and you will not be happy.
Jays are lucky they aren't down 5-2 to be honest, Font got rocked. Couple of very deep fly balls.

It's the stupidest change in baseball management in the last few years.
Yes, batting averages are higher, third time through. Well duh. But that's only half of the equation. The other half is that you wear out your bullpen by taking the guy out.
And it isn't about your best relievers, it's the change at the margin. What I mean by that, using the Jays as an example, is that the best relievers (Romano, Giles, Cole, etc) are going to get their innings anyway. If you add more innings to the bullpen load, it's the fringe guys (Font) that are going to get the extras.
Case in point today.
So you give less work to your starters and more work to the Fonts and Wagespacks. Which group are going to give up more runs?

Awesome slide at 3rd, terrible decision to run home afterwards. Not even close.

Wasted opportunity.
Also, Vogelbach's batting gloves not being done up really drives my OCD nuts

Infield drawn in and you choose to run on a grounder right at a guy?
C'mon you can't count on them to throw it away every time.

I agree with you, I'm just saying it's probably not just Montoyo, it's probably something that Shakins wants too

I bet there isn't.
Fisher is back, and with the addition of Villar they might play Biggio in the OF more too, especially once Bo comes back.

So the Jays hitting coach was Vogelbach's coach in the minors, and Dante Bichette also apparently knows him well. They must think he untapped potential based on info from these two which might explain why they would acquire him when they already have Tellez on the roster.

Geez, Borucki looked untouchable for a little while there, but coming back down to earth now. I guess that's why they call 'em super small sample sizes.
