After the Devils discussion last night I went and watched some Pavel Zacha video.

Man that guy has a wicked shot. Seems to be an ok skater too. Thought he was a lot bigger than he is but he's still a good size.

I wouldn't want him as a Gaudreau centrepiece but he's still pretty young and I'd take a flier on him if NJ were interested in moving him.

Still have no interest in McLeod though.

1st 7th overall + Wood

or

18th and 20th overall + Wood

These are the NJ packages I would want in exchange for Johnny. It's so hard to gauge proper value.

Seems like the return will probably be similar to the Mark Stone trade, but with a slightly better roster player and a 1st instead of the 2nd, as Johnny has two years left on his deal.

Apparently on the morning show today it was mentioned that the Flames and Gustafsson have discussed contract numbers and are not close. Gustafsson probably wants top-four money and the Flames shouldn't and likely won't give it to him.

Friedman just reiterated that the Flames will make a decision in regards to Ward/the head coaching position here quickly. Likely in the next week or two.

Gus seems valuable as a PP specialist, but you surely can't pay him much more than $3M for that role?

I don't see him coming back realistically. I'd rather keep Brodie, use Rasmus or potentially Valimaki on the PP to replace Gustafsson, and go after a vet D like Vatanen / Dillon / Gudas.

If Brodie doesn't sign then Barrie seems like a good replacement who we've been linked to at least twice now in the last year.

I feel like if they were keeping Ward as head coach, they'd have already done it.

I'm no GM either but you want a block buster?

Gaudreau, Hannafin, Kjillington to New Jersey for Zacha, Arizonas 1st pick owned by NJ, and PK Subban with NJ retaining $3,000,000 of Subbans salary. 2 years of Subban at 32-33 years old (R Shot) and free agent Hall would spice things up.

Gaudreau AND Hanifin and Kylington for that...??

That is a blockbuster trade because it would put Treliving out of work.

Not sure if gio and domi are included but I do listen if I am Treliving. Something around danault and mony isn’t that far fetched.
I agree; Danault hasn’t had the luxury of Gaudreau + Lindholm or potentially Hall + Tkachuk so I think his numbers would inflate for sure but past that here’s a 27 YO Center man who gets the defensive side of the game as much as or more than Backlund. Consistently a mid 50 percent faceoff guy who takes upwards of 1600 faceoffs a year is a great weapon and he’s not shy to throw a hit or two either though he’s not a physically imposing player by any stretch. It would be an interesting Dynamic to run with basically 3 x 2nd line centres and go with a by-committee approach at that position but they would all have an opportunity to be playing with high end wingers.

Gaudreau - Danault - Lindholm
Hall - Domi - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Ryan - Dube
Reider

I don’t see how that is a terrible forward group in comparison to what we ran in the playoffs; still has plenty of snarl, size and grit through out, lots of defensive awareness and a lot of offensive threats up and down.

Is Domi really a top 6 center? I see him as a top 6 Lw and a 3rd line center. He is young and could potentially turn into a top 6 center but I don’t think he is there yet.

He is only a season removed from 72 points with 24 G and 37 A at even strength taking 997 draws but only having a %44 in the dot. I think what it would do is create healthy competition for that 2nd line role between himself and Bennett with the player who doesn’t get that role riding shotgun with Backlund and Mangiapane.

Stone was immediately signed though so he wasn't a typical UFA deal. Wouldn't a signed Stone be worth more than 2 years of Johnny?

I'm very nervous about the return if we're trying to win now. Just seems like we're destined to land a lesser player and a couple mediocre throw in pieces. I think the only way you maximize Johnnys value is a futures package that you hit on. Doubtful they go that route. Or maybe you land a futures package and use those pieces to go after an established player.

A signed Stone at 9.5M.

If a team acquired Johnny this summer they get 2 years at $6.75 and only $10M left to pay him. Any team that trades for him will do so with intentions to sign him. If anything he should get more than a player that was an expiring contract.

Acquiring Domi would allow you to avoid overspending on a hall.

I would also like to see Dube play higher up on the lineup. Domi would slot in where HJ put Hall and that puts Dube in your top 9. Or we move Johnny to make Domi and Tkachuk your top 2 LW

Watching Vegas, they are deeper at W than they are at C and appear to be managing just fine.

Any deal for Danault would have to come with extension in hand. Not trading mony for 1 year of Danault.

Honestly, the more I watch Philadelphia play, the more I think Konecny could be available. He's been pretty invisible during these playoffs and I could see the local team bringing in an elite hometown star as nothing but positive!

Travis Konecny (RHS) + Matt Niskanen (RHS)
for
Johnny Gaudreau + Oliver Kylington

Niskanen has one year left at 5.75 which isn't horrible and can play in our top 4. Konecny is signed to 5.5 over the next 5 seasons.

If the Flames were able to land Hall, you've basically replaced Johnny's production with Hall's while adding a young, cost controlled RHS RW to the roster.

Hall - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Konecny
Dude - Bennett - Mangi
Lucic - Ryan - Robinson

Gio - Andersson
Hanifin - Niskanen
Valimaki - ____

Talbot
Rittich
