Should/Will the Flames keep Ward

Confidence alone doesn’t win games. Reirden is another in Treliving’s line of succession of no-name-brand head coaches with very little history of demonstrated success on the job. It would be the absolute most Flames move ever, and in my opinion a damning indication that he has no pulse on what this team needs. Just hiring guys he personally likes.

If there's any team that could put a man over the brink it's our beloved Flames.

I remember Crispy yelling so long and so loud that his lips turned blue.

Of course not, but that wasn't the point. I was responding to a poster who suggested that NHL coaches are leery of working in Calgary because they are concerned about getting another job beyond that. THIS IS NONSENSE. It is nonsense because every NHL coach—including ones with sub-standard track records like Gulutzan, or Eakins, or Reirden—does not get to the position he has without a supreme level of self confidence. THAT'S ALL. It is not a comment on who the Flames's next head coach should be. (Except maybe to say that hiring the guy who is sure he can turn the Flames into a winner is probably not the only metric that should be employed in the search.) It is a comment on this ridiculous notion that the Flames have become a pariah organization to be avoided at all costs by NHL coaches.

So, perhaps we should let this play out before damning Treliving for a decision that he has not yet made.

I have the feeling we’re going into a Playfair/Keenan scenario this offseason. Ward comes back unless Treliving is able to hire the specific coach he wants.

I'm perfectly fine with that, depending on who that specific coach is.
I'd prefer to stick with Ward than to just replace him with a different unproven "rising star".

Put an inanimate carbon rod back there and I doubt you see much difference with this group. Make another change and this core under Treliving will be on its 5th coach with the same issues plaguing them each and every time.
In rod we trust!

I kind of think Sutter could be the guy they bring in and Ward remains the associate.

If we do manage to sign Hall while not trading Johnny - how great would it be to see Bruce Boudreau as the coach? It'd be one hell of an entertaining season! I'd be pretty happy to see Sutter or Boudreau behind the bench, although two very different style of coaches.

He pretty much indicated back in 2018 that he was done when rumours came up about coaching the Capitals. He was quoted as saying that 40 years in hockey was enough and he didn't want to be away from his grand kids.

He would be my choice as well. He is a hard ass, but also a stand-up guy that players seem to respect. It's difficult to find that line. I don't see it happening though.

Yup. Ward is not the best coach put there, but he's probably better than another mystery box.
I see him kind of like Talbot: not likely to lead us to a cup, but good enough to win a round or two in the right circumstances.

Friedman speculated that the Flames are going to want to resolve the coaching situation sooner rather than later and that it will be the first thing they do (before trades etc).

Friedman on HNIC said that he has heard the Flames will make their decision on whether to keep Ward or bring in a new coach in the next week or two.

I'd like to think if they were really sold on Ward, they wouldn't need a few weeks.

That is the way Treliving works. He likes to see all his options before he makes a decision.

The coach should be the biggest leader, I wasn't getting that vibe from Ward.
(see him standing around with his hands in his pockets instead of being verbal at some key moments vs the Stars)

Except when he doesn't. Peters for example.
