As bad as that Andersen rumour is, I can't believe people here are at all okay with that Gaudreau to Montreal rumour.
That is an absolutely putrid return and Treliving should be fired on the spot if that was real.
Luckily it's nonsense.

Sam Bennett, Rittich and 19th overall for a goalie with 1 year left on his deal? LOL
Who writes this garbage? Flames are way more likely to try to acquire a goalie through free agency before even considering giving up that much.

I think for me rides on the 1st's.
If the rumor is both of Montreals 1sts, Domi, and Poehling then maybe I can live with that.
It's not a top 10 pick, but two top 20 picks in what is a very deep draft, and a guy who could bounce back in Domi, isn't a crippling return.
But yeah if it's a single 1st, Domi , and Poehling then that's pretty terrible.
Really though that Andersen rumor is still 10x worse than what that Gaudreau return would be.

It also comes with 3m in cap savings. Say the space to sign Hall?
Then off a sudden you have size and grit throughout the entire lineup.
It makes a ton of sense from a numbers standpoint.

After yet another great playoff performance by Bennett, we need to keep him. We can't afford to lose him when he has been our best playoff performer again.
If we are struggling to make the playoffs for next season, it might be best for the Flames to sell super high on Bennett during the TDL. He's not an offseason move candidate, contending teams would line up for him and his super low $ contract for a playoff run.

They're worse than Eklund.
I honestly still believe Eklund has like 2 or 3 people out there in some organizations. He still gets the occasional tidbit that has a small piece of truth in it...but that website you linked is just pure trash while Eklund is only 99.9999% trash.

Agreed, no way Treliving considers that.

Does it save us money? Domi is a RFA and will need a raise. If there are savings, it will be minimal and probably not enough to sign Hall.

Domi and Tkachuk on the same team?

Most of us aren't.
A few, like Jiri, will be happy with any return for Gaudreau. But I don't think that is the majority.

I like Domi he is still young and would probably be someone you can sign for 5.5x6 and he can play center or wing and brings some grit. He is really only a 18 goal 40pt guy for the most part and definitely weakens the teams scoring ability. More money would have to be shed but they would likely need to pursue Taylor Hall in order to replace Johnny’s offense.
Treliving/Maloney know Domi and drafted him. At the end of the day I think this is as fake as the Couturier rumor so hopefully not going to happen
|
I would rather pay Bennet $3M than trade for Domi, who is way overrated.

I could definitely live with the Montreal rumour, I like Domi a lot. Poehling was a pretty well regarded prospect, but injuries have eaten into his progress-his ceiling isn't too high anymore. Those 2 picks had better include at least 1 first though.
The Andersen rumour is horsecrap.

Domi supposedly wants to be a C, it's apparently one of the reasons he may be on the block because the Habs already have Danault, Suzuki and Kotkaniemi as Cs long term.
Poehling is also a C, although he also plays LW.
If this trade happened, here would be the Flames C depth chart:
Monahan
Domi
Backlund (Full NTC)
Bennett
Ryan
Poehling
Janko (RFA)
If they acquire Domi and plan to use him as a C, and also still plan on keeping Bennett and using him as a C, then something's gotta give.
|
Quantity does not equal quality.
You can only dress 4, so what's the plan? Either Backlund or Bennett is the 4th line C there (assuming you can move Ryan, which is a big if). Then you have two useless pieces in Poehling and Jankowski.
What a cluster#### of a lineup that would be!

Which is funny because this is exactly where the ridiculous Max Domi-Johnny Gaudreau rumour originated from and yet everyone is entertaining it.

Can we all make up bull crap rumours?
The Flames will trade Johnny Gaudreau...to everyone, he will take turns playing for every team equally and the Flames get all first round picks this year in an act of solidarity by the league.

I'm late to the party on the Habs thing. I think that everyone knows what Domi is as a player, and that's an average second line centre who plays a gritty style that causes trouble for the opposing team. Nothing wrong with that. He is available because he has been pushed to wing in Montreal, where he is not as effective. In that way he is very much like Sam Bennett.
The only way that a Domi trade makes sense is if the Flames are serious about trading Monahan. Centre depth of Backlund, Domi, Bennett, Ryan would be unique in the league for being extraordinarily difficult to play against.
No interest in Poehling.
Domi, 16th, 61st, and Noah Juulsen, sign me up.
